Would anyone dare to post anything that they wouldn't say in a job interview?

Why draw an equivalency between something formal and narrowly defined like a job interview, on the one hand, and something like a platform for people to speak freely and candidly about almost anything, on the other?

The purpose of an interview and the purpose of a message board are completely different. In what way do you think they overlap?

It’s never wise to use real user names and at job interviews I always say what I think they they will want to hear?

Why answer a question with a question?
Yeah, I know I'm doing it too, but I was looking for humorous answers in this informal forum. What's your motive?

I will pots things I wouln't say in a job uinterview, mainly because job interviews in my experience are much more about work, than general interest.

The problem with humour is that the best stuff divides people into two camps; those who find it funny, and those looking for something to be outraged about so they can virtue signal to their peer group.

Actually it’s less of a “problem” and more of a litmus test.

I tried a bit of light-hearted self-deprecating humour, for example, on the "Original 'Pawn Stars'" thread recently. The reaction was carnage: nastiness, disingenuousness, posturing, and being blamed for destroying the forums ~ none of which originated from me. Anyone can go back and look at it.

I don't know about "job interviews", but a poster called Kevin Eleven would frequently ask me if I would "have the courage" to go into a local mosque at prayer time and confront Muslims with my agnostic/atheistic perspectives.

My reaction was always the same: how is a house of worship of a particular religion, in which people are engaged in the rituals related to their faith, in any way equivalent to a venue like a U.K.-based chess website with a chat forum for religious and non-religious people to discuss things with each other?

Thread 198344

Indeed the "humopur" part wasn't recognised by many (including me, even after rereading I can't find the "humour".
However I shrugged it off, but then I am not a native speaker and have general problems with "pulling oens leg". Normally I feel that it is a cheap way to explain embarrasing ebhaviour (In that case I understood the "humouros", "leg pulling" asan attempt to imply that dcpk could be a reestablished account (and yes it was made clear with the addendum that it was not the case...but "humourous" would not hav eebn my description).

Well, as you say, you just didn't get it. And having admitted that, it's a bit rich of you to claim that the humour - that you didn't get - was "a cheap way to explain embarrassing behavior".

I am not the slightest bit "embarrassed" by my self-deprecating humour and I do not write posts with non-native speakers in mind.

You probably should have "shrugged it off" and left it at that.

You are talking about something different. The self-deprecating quips were elsewhere. I genuinely did not see dcpk on the list at first and made a mistake. It wasn't "humour". And I corrected the mistake within 30 seconds. So what on Earth are you moaning about?

How should people react to non-offensive, light-hearted humour that not everyone gets?

As you quite correctly said I didn't get it.
