Still dont get it. Some of the recomendations seem to be blurbs, and not the origional post. I am trying to not sound critical, I'm just curious.

for instance, if you click on the "recommended" link you will see that your famous post
"You need to get out more prad"
has been immortalized with 4 recommendations. this means that at least 4 people think that you have made a valuable contribution to the rhp forums.
when anyone else peruses the recommended thread, they may be inspired by those 4 recommendations to wonder deeply about how asute and profound the poster is; they may contemplate as to whether the wisdom of the post will ever be followed; they may even join rhp in the hopes of being sufficiently fortunate to be recipients themselves of such gleanings! this then is the far-reaching influence of those 4 recommendations and i am grateful i was able to make one of them myself for this worthy cause.
of course, these people will need to see all this within the 7 day timeout period (no timebank in place) since only the past week's result will be visible.
i hope i have clarified the recommendation issue sufficiently.
in friendship,
prad
I have a strong feeling some people are using the <recommended> feature to "vote" for the post in question. It then becomes a feature that says: "I agree with the contents of that particular post". Well, of course that can be a reason to recommend it, but you can also recommend a post because it deals in a relevant way with some (important) issue. You can recommend the post because you hold the opinion people should read it if they happen to be interested in the subject the post is dealing with. For that reason I have recommended posts of my opponents in discussions we are having in certain threads. It didn't mean however that I agreed with everything they said. When I recommend a post it means: "For some reason this post is interesting to read and therefore I recommend it". For me it doesn't necessarily mean that I agree with (part of) the content.
I rec the posts I agree with or enjoy... If I chuckle while reading it I will rec it.
Last night I rec'd "Edgar's Missing". It was a good light-hearted post that people seemed to enjoy posting to right away. Nothing to think about reading it... just a fun post.
I think if people rec more posts, they might mean more. I perhaps rec 6 or so a day after reading 50+ posts. Geesh, now I wonder how many posts I do read a day... never really thought about it. I can read a lot in one day... or perhaps 2 of Ivanhoe's!!! 😉

Edit Also, in Help and Site Ideas I'll rec a good answer to a good question. It is good when someone comes in and answeres a question right away, correctly... that is how that forum works!

Rwing used to have the longest posts, he's seemed to cut them down in the past 6 months.
