I took time to rethink about what happened, and I believe I owe RHP
a clear position. I am not going to start a war, on the contrary, it is an
invitation to go on peacefully.
First of all: I am not a cheater in my games. Many people know
already my background, know that I have played at quite a good level
years before, was off for 13 years, started back in december, and
gradually improved to a level perhaps even higher than before -
mainly because correspondence allows for focussed study. It explains
also why my earlier games in RHP are not of the same standard as
my current ones.
Second: there is no 'conspiracy' against anyone. Nor has any other
player (Julia, Lyn, Janey, ....) received any help from me during
ongoing games, or do we have common targets to attack anyone.
Third: my reaction of resigning games is not to admit any guilt. Its
purpose is to bring me to a retreated position, from where I can play
again on a peer-to-peer basis. I apologise if that has caused
confusion, perhaps it was a wrong choice. I also apologise to the
players to which I resigned. I thank those that already indicated their
willingess to play again.
Lastly: I apologise for my initial reaction, through which I have done
more bad than good and discredited other people. I apologise to
Julia, Lyn, Janey, and to all RHP.
Up to you, each individual of RHP, to decide for yourself.

You have my complete support and 100% backing, and I want to
make it clear to all of RHP'ers out there that I feel that you are great
player that takes time to help others (Me and Shougi for example),
and shares your knowledge about chess.
And the fact that people are accusing you of cheating is shocking, and
I for one know that you are probably the most genuine guy on the
site,
So Stay on the site, Enjoy your chess and forget about what 'other'
people say and I look forward to another crippling defeat soon :o)
Here is to you and Julia,
Cheers

(Pawnking)
Lynn,
Dont worry about it, you have done nothing wrong, so dont worry. If
anything you have done good for RHP by going into Count;s account
to get a pawnstar which helps contribute to the running of this
WONDERFUL site. Be positive because you are held in High Regard by
many people here Lyn, I know so because so many people who I have
played have said so !!
PS Can I play you again, it has been a while and I think your limit has
been reached so I cannot challenge you.
Cheers
Si
Gilbert,
I was quite saddened to read Dave's unrestrained speculation that you
were being less than honest with your play.
I can easily identify with your position and understand your increased
playing strength. I have always thought that some of the human race
is actually smart, which is proven time and again by those who do
improve over time. In this age of computers and those who choose to
use them for chess play, genuine improved playing strength can lead
others to assume one is using a computer. At least one player here
has accused me of this, and I have never used computers to help me
play chess here, or made any special arrangements to cheat.
I had played correspondence chess for several years running from
1973 to 1981, then stopped until 1989 when I played for one year,
started back up again in 1995 and played to 1998, then this year,
after playing speed chess at ICC for several years, started playing
correspondence here when tipped off to this site by a casual friend.
More recently, because of the continued spats, accusations, multi
accounts for cheating, use of chess programs to play here, I have
started play at a site I find to be much better - www.PlayChess.de!
Please indulge me by permitting my digression here: If you want
good, honest competition, seriously check out www.PlayChess.de. I
believe it is based in Germany, but is a world class website that is
extremely well done. A player at that site may have ONLY one
account and play may be by private game or in tournament sections.
For tournaments, www.PlayChess.de has three general leagues:
Human Chess League (HCL) – for human play ONLY, Advanced Chess
League (ACL) – use of chess engines is REQUIRED with human play,
and the Computer Chess League (CCL) for computer chess engines
ONLY. Also, one can annotate any or all of their finished game,
make notes to save during games for later reference, and much,
much more. www.PlayChess.de is more inline with the FIDE site and
other serious chess playing sites. They do ask a small membership
fee for a year ($22US and well worth it!) but membership is not
required to play. Non-members simply have some limitations on
number of games at one time that can be played and access to
certain areas of the site requires membership. I eventually will play
all my games there, as one can, by winning class tournaments, qualify
for the next higher class tournament, such as a Class A rated player
section winner would play in an Expert tournament next, and then a
Master level tournament, as long has s/he keeps taking first in the
sections.
Anyway, I very highly recommend www.PlayChess.de over our beloved
RHP. Not as a slam to RHP, but simply because www.PlayChess.de
has solved some problems RHP does not deal well with: primarily
multi-user (bogus) accounts and use of chess engines during play
between what is suppose to be human-to-human play. By not only
permitting the use of chess engines but also requiring their use in the
Advanced Chess League, www.PlayChess.de has just about eliminated
such use during human-to-human play.
Anyway, getting back to the issue at hand, my playing strength was far
better in the early years then in recent years. Much of this is because
playing chess at a decent level is very hard work, and because I had
spent many of the past few years playing speed chess. Now speed
chess has its value, namely increasing quick recognition of certain
threats, but the big draw back is that it permits impulsive persons,
such as myself, to play moves for effect rather than soundness. That
behavior has caused me much trouble in my “serious” correspondence
games here. My play has been spotty. But I am slowly getting my
playing strength back as a result of playing some very difficult games
with you and a few others.
I’m sorry to see that you resigned some of your games
unnecessarily. Dave should be at the top of the ratings list only as a
direct result of his play. I’ve noticed that his mouth sometimes gets
him into trouble – a problem I had in my younger days. Please DO
NOT resign anymore games unless you really are lost. No players are
served by bloated ratings - everyone loses. Empty wins are not wins.
My best advise to you is to stand your ground, and to visit
www.PlayChess.de.
