in real life, i'm quite a bit quiter, and i talk soooooooooo much crap at times...more so than i do here. (just, like, random crap. so that when i say something that is true and makes sense-for instance "white tie does exist! it's super posh stuff!"-noone beleives me. but it does exist. tell your friends. tell jacko. tell him again. please.
The internet certainly changes people! Perhaps the main reason that people act differently on the internet is a lack of comfort. In a social situation, you are perfectly comfortable (you know who everyone is), but online you really aren't comfortable. I think this comfort level makes people choose their words more carefully.
The personality is pretty much the same. I think a little more before I 'click' post. I have to be careful not to violate the TOS. I normally use alot of profanity and slang phrases people would find offensive.
I think another big factor here is the physical appreance effect. If you were to see me in real life, you would never guess that I can even play chess. You would definately not let your daughter talk to me...
