Have read: 'Gödel, Escher, Bach' by Douglas Hofstadter (I know that's a mathmo cliche, but it is good)
Am reading: 'Don Quixote' (in translation I'm afraid 😳 ) by Miguel de Cervantes
Intend to read: 'The Quark and the Jaguar' by Murray Gell-Man (half autobiography, half adventures in physics, by one of the 20th century's greatest physicists - he's also meant to be quite witty)
Thanks Acolyte, 'The Quark and the Jaguar' sounds like something I could enjoy - now, just to find a copy 🙁

Supprised noone has said Tolkien, also I quite like John Grisham and David Gutherson (Law stories) and alao JK Rowling, harry potter can be fun, if another ever comes out.

A Prayer for Owen Meany is really good, and the film based on it is complete sh1t.

I haven't seen the film....the films are usually a poor substitute

Ragnorak - you sound as though you'd enjoy an author called

Carl Hiaasen.

Brilliant author, very funny, and slightly off the wall...

Try "Skinny Dip" or "Sick Puppy"

Very much recommended.....

yeah Hiaasen is really good. I've only read one book by him that I found boring... and that was "Hoot", the one specially written for teenagers... with the black humor gone, there's not much left of Hiaasen. I would advise not to read more than two of his books in a row... the characters and plot in the different books tend to be pretty similar. My fave is Double Whammy 😀

My absolutely favorite author is.... Michael Crichton!!!! (Just bought "Eaters of the dead" last week) I think his non-fiction books are boring (lol I never even finished The Great Train Robbery as I couldn't get past the first 100 pages... if anybody wants to stick up for the non-fiction books be my guest, I'm not really in any position to judge.) but the fiction books are some of the best books I've ever read... thinking of Timeline there, my all-time favorite.

And another rec from me: The best (okok, and only) non-fiction book I have ever read is The Hot Zone. I forgot who the author was, but I can go look downstairs if anybody wants to know. The book is about Ebola... very interesting if you're into that kinda thing (Angie=wants to be a virologist... seriously).

This thread just gave me a brilliant idea: once I have finished my homework, I will go and read the book I have been reading for... 3 months. The problem is that I have so much to do that the only time I really read is before going to bed... and then I fall asleep after 10 pages 😳
