I was asked to join the site by a friend who allready was playing on RHP, however not as a Pawn Star. Later I became a Pawn Star myself and I subscribed for a period of two years, because I liked the way things were organised, the people, the lay out of the site, well, just about everything. I then asked another friend to join and he became a Star Pawn very soon, because I told him how exciting it is to play tournaments. He is in several tournaments as well. He's getting problems with his wife now, because he is spending too much time on RHP. Hooked !! 😵
The friend who invited me to play on RHP is a Star Pawn now himself and also playing in tournaments. Great !!
When I had to choose my nickname/handle I was not prepared for that question and I took a name of one of my childhood heroes, Ivanhoe, a knight of the Middle Ages, created by the writer Sir Walter Scott. I don't regret choosing that handle, because I loved his adventures as a young kid.
I joined after finding references to Rival, back when I did some chess programming. The forums got me hooked, and are the primary reason I've stayed around.
My avatars have been:
1. Default
2. Polytonal Orange Fractal
3. Mini Me (for about half an hour, when my father's was Doctor Evil)
4. Explosion
5. Rodin's Le Penseur
6. Bernhard Riemann
7. Alan Turing
8. Robert Pirsig
9. Black Cat
10. Srinivasa Ramanujan
I may have left a few out.
i hadn't played chess for years, until a few of us started playing on new year's day 2002, in the aftermath of a party the night before. i found out that a friend i'd know for years could play really well (lots better than me). we played a few times in the ensuing weeks, then i had the bright idea of looking on the internet. rhp was the first i found. i later found itsyourturn. i preferred rhp, and played mainly battleships at iyt. i finally became a pawn star in March 2003. i regret choosing my unimaginative handle - didn't really expect it to come to anything at the time. c'est la vie...not sure what i'd choose if i had my time again...

Yes, blue eyes (!?) you did. 😀
Do you know to what avatar I'm referring ?
Lóóóóóóóól 😵
I was surfing the net pretty randomly, and saw someone mention RHP in a message in some forum. Went to check it out, registered, and started a few games. Loved it immediately, and got my star within days of registering. RHP is an awesome chess site!
My handle "Pyrrho" is the name of a Greek philosopher, founder of the school of scepticism. Beeing a sceptic, and an ardent opponent of dogmatism myself, Pyrrho was a natural choise. His philosophy reminds me somewhat of Buddhism. Since there is no picture of Pyrrho available, I had to improvise... wonder if he looked anything like my avatar? 😲🙄

I came to RHP at the behest of friends. I was a nonpaying member (is that an oxymoron?) for quite awhile (about a year, I think), but when the six-game limit was imposed, I finally decided to become a pawn star.
I chose this nickname out of general retardedness. I wanted something scary-sounding that also referred to some of the stupid music that I like. Given the opportunity for a nickname do-over, I would probably just use my name.
I'm still in love with my avatar.

Your handle has a mysterious ring to it.
I bet 65 is not your age though 🙄
