Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" #1? They have got to be woofin' me! "Imagine" #3?(Gag me with a spoon!) "Good Vibrations"(Beach Boys)#5? "I Want To Hold Your Hand" #16? Where is Stairway to Heaven? Freebird? Light My Fire? My Way? What a sick joke!

I think Like A Rolling Stone is a great choice for #1 and The Beach Boys kick Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd's combined ass thoroughly. Not only was Zeppelin carried by their drummer but Jimmy Page is the biggest rip-off artist next to Eric Clapton!

And to say that Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton are the biggest rip-off artists ever is to villify them for (a) not being black; and (b) being popular. That's low.
The Beatles should have had more songs in the Top 10, let alone Top 20. They were one of the most influential bands in history! I have nothing bad to say about Dylan.
The whole concept of listing the "1000 Greatest Rock Songs Of All Time" is ridiculous anyway. What exactly is the difference between No. 392 and No. 391? No. 11 and No. 10? And especially, No. 2 and No. 1? Not a g.d. thing, that's for sure. Some Rolling Stones editor picked his nose, flung the results at a dart board, and then checked with marketing to make sure fate had selected the most controversial and sales enhancing order possible.
Pathetic.

I can villify whoever I want for being popular because being popular does not inherently make you talented or even good. It means you are a marketable commodity and that's it.
Good thing Jimmy and Eric weren't black or you wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between them and Robert Johnson or Howlin' Wolf.
I shall not back down to you sir!

Brian Wilson stuffed his pants, but in the nuthouse they call them "diapers", and the cucumber was post-processing. And although he spent all that creativity in his pinky penning love ballads to his stick-shift, in his defense he didn't have anything to do with f'ing "Kokomo".
Jimmy Page is a legendary guitarist and musician for good reason. Along with John Paul Jones, John Bonham and Robert Plant, he was responsible for some of the heaviest riffs, most memorable solos, beautiful songs and critically acclaimed albums in rock. Clapton I'm not a big fan of, but it's not because he's a so-called "rip-off artist".
Fess up. You hate them because they're popular and your hippie friends pumped them on the stero all your life. If Led Zeppelin was some unknown garage band from the Pasadena hardcore scene known only to you and the indie columnist at the Star, you'd be all over them. But they're not. They're a legendary band with millions in record sales, and the best criticism you can come up with is that they're rip-off artists. To be fair, they did lose that lawsuit brought by Willie Dixon. But when was the last time you heard a blind black blues player doing "The Ocean" or "D'yer Maker"? They didn't recycle blues and rock, they progressed it. Quite successfully, I might add.
And if you want to say "Pet Sounds" trumps "Sgt. Pepper", we got a lot ah cacciatore to sort out.
Originally posted by PBE6Okay, as a compromise, I can admit to Led Zeppelin having some great songs and Jimmy Page was a good technical guitarist but Andrew, they made their money off so many of those great bluesmen and never gave a penny to them. Those men died penniless and miserable while the white-man's cracker blues goes on to sell millions of records.
I can't back down from that, either.

Not only are Zeppelin rip-off artists but they're also a bunch of carpet-baggers who should pay reparations for the sins they've committed!
And Sgt. Pepper's is better than Pet Sounds. You know my love for the Beatles runs true.
Although racism is still a serious problem, I have to say that the time when the only blues white people would listen to was white-cracker blues was long past by the time Zepplin came around. Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Jimi Hendrix sold enough records to chalk-faced English and American kids to demonstrate that.
And I still say Zepplin had more original riffs than B.B. King.
But I think I can live with the rest of the compromise.

I can't wait to see the whole 1000-those drugged up jabrones at RS probably consider the Cowsills, the Archies, the Putrid Family, Sweet,Queen, and Bobby Goldsboro to be more influential than CCR,BTO,the Allmans,ZZ Top,SRV,the Who,Grand Funk,BS&T. As regards Dylan,"Rollin' Stone" is a great song, but best of all time-puhleeeeeeze!. It's not even Dylan's best-I think that honor goes to either "Knockin" On Heaven's Door",or "Hurricane"
