Don`t you know how it`s possible not to lose Battle of Lake Trasimene and Battle of the Teutoburg Forest? Which tactic to use? In these battles I got hammered even in the easiest level.

Sorry, but you are way ahead of me... I'm still playing the campaigns!

I played Rome Total War until my eyes bled. I played the campaign with most of the factions and also used certain mods, the best of which was Rome Total Realism (www.rometotalrealism.org). I played Barbarian Invasion extensively too, and even wrote an online guide for playing the Saxons.

Unfortunately, when I upgraded my computer, I tried to reinstall Rome I discovered that disk 2 was completely borked. So I can't play it any more.

Instead I now play Medieval 2 Total War until my eyes bleed. If you have it, get the Lands to Conquer mod.

I'm looking forward to Empire Total War.

Me too. At the moment I`m playing for Carthage with the hardest level (including the hardest battle level). It`s really hard to survive - some territories which are not close enough to your main forces in Africa (like Sardinia and Balearic islands) is impossible to save from Romans.

I only ever played it on VH/VH difficulty level, and found Carthage to be one of the easiest factions to play.

Perhaps you need to visit www.totalwar.org, or as we TW players call it, The Org.

Here's the thread guide for Carthage:
http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=36866 *

You can find guides for all the factions there, if you can navigate around the site.

*Note that the difficulty level for Carthage increased after patch 1.5, so you might want to look at the newer posts in that thread and ignore the older ones.

Also, this thread is the bees' knees:

I played extensively as well, (and like hoppy I use Total Realism) and still rate it as the best of the Total War series. I began playing Empire :Total War recently, but it lacks the sense of inclusion and desire that Rome did, there are also numerous woeful choices in gameplay mechanic which I think should have been left as they were in Rome, but I guess that's all for an Empire thread.

To summarise: Go Rome!

Some of these guides seems to be arguable - for example about Numidia who will attack Carthagen. In my campaign I had no problems to make alliance with Numidia and then attack them after Romans stopped their attempts to reconquer Sicilia 🙂

I am a real beginner in this game, but it does require some logic etc. Ice put me onto it I think.

I will follow with interest.
