Running programs from a USB

Running programs from a USB

Ok, so I bought a software, and I am burning to install it in my laptop. However, soon I'll change laptop (come Santa! Come!).

Can I install and run the program from a USB? In that way, I can carry the USB and run/use the program in any computer I use at any given moment.

Thanks

Buy one of these sticks :

http://www.u3.com/

And you can do just this.

U3 really is excellent. All the essential apps you are likely to need, in your pocket, and with your data/files encrypted too.

Depends on which program it is.

What is it?

Oh Russ, thanks!

But what if the boxed software I bought has no "portable version" as Palynka says?

Does it mean I cannot install it and run it from the U3?

Portable versions and u3 versions are not the same. You might find one, but not the other.

Ok, this is where I look embarrassingly ignorant... what is the difference?

I mean, the software is this

http://www.finaldraft.com/products/final-draft/

I searched the FAQs and they say nothing about portable or U3 stuff.

Maybe you can try this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMware_ThinApp

I never used it though, so don't blame me if your computer blows up.

Ok, so cool, from this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3

I read nothing that can prevent me from installing and running from a U3 any software available in the market.

Is this correct?

No, only available U3 versions of programs.

So, basically, I have no other option but to install the software I bought in my damn laptop.
