Dear folks,
Sadly an historic moment at RHP passed without comment.
On October 11, 2002 23:39 RHP time, the theoretically most important game in
all of chess history, played right here at RHP, ended.
Yes, the amazing battle between GrandMaster and jakdaxter ended after 196
thrilling moves. The theoretical importance of this games is, as some of you
know, the fact that the last 130 moves of the game occured pieceless and
pawnless. Yes a one on one fight to the death of King against King!
Eventually, however, GrandMaster appeared to give jakdaxter some tactical
puzzles which were too complex for mere human ability to solve. jakdaxter
landed in time trouble. Game ended 1-0, win for GrandMaster.
Sigh. All good things must come to an end.
Yes, he did live up to his nickname didn't he? I'm sure lesser players, ones
with less steely confidence in their chess abilities, with less mental
endurance, with less of an iron will, would have settled for a draw 130 or so
moves earlier. But he held on for the win. A lesson for us all in the power of
perseverence.
