That was a small touch.. but a push is a push... I think the right call was made, but could have been overlooked easy.
Notice how the guy didn't throw the flag till the defender started crying about the push? Fishy.
P-
The reason the flag wasn't thrown instantly was because the ref was kind of fumbling around while reaching into his back pocket for the flag. The defender started complaining about the push instantly, but that doesn't mean that the ref was incorrect to throw the flag.
As a Steeler fan from way, way back, a few comments:
1) Rothlisbeger didn't have his usual good game, but he made some big plays when he needed to, both passing and rushing for first downs, in third down situations. Plus, he made a nice block on Randle-El's TD pass to Hines Ward as Randle-El was rolling out to the right.
2) I felt bad for Hasselbeck, kept hitting his receivers right in the hands.
3) Worst case of clock management I've ever seen in this situation by one team, considering how Seattle screwed up not just at the end of the 2nd quarter, but at the end of the 4th quarter as well. Time management doesn't get much worse than that.
4) Couple of missed field goals didn't help, even though the 2nd miss was 54 yards, it was still indoors, in ideal conditions...and it had the distance...
5) I'm glad Joey Porter is on our side, but he got his butt kicked on Sunday, I thought
6) The Seahawks picked the absolute worst times to commit holding penalties. Cost them dearly.
7) I don't think that winning it for Bettis was such a big deal. The Steelers teams from the 70s that won 4 championships didn't need any extra motivation to win the Superbowl. Their only motivation was wanting to be the best. I don't know why that isn't enough for players today.
Steeler players: We need to win this one for Jerome, in his home town, especially since this will be his last game....
Bloop: What the hell's the matter with you guys? Isn't being a World Champion enough motivation for you to win this game??? You mean you wouldn't care about winning if Jerome was coming back next season???
I can't stand when professional athletes have to come up with some phony reason as to why they should try to win a championship!
8) On Ben's dive into the end zone...I couldn't really see where the ball was, even on the reverse-angle replay. I think folks are going to see what they want to see there...Personally, when they showed the replay, I was trying to figure out where the ball was when he was holding it, and the way I saw it, I think that part of the ball may have crossed the very front part of the end zone while Ben was still in the air, but he got pushed back while in the air, and obviously the ball was out of the end zone by the time he landed. But I didn't see any evidence to overturn the call, nor did I see for sure that he got in. BUT, since that was a third down play, a previous poster was correct in saying that Cower definitely would have gone for the TD on 4th down and two-thirds of an inch...
9) I didn't like Parker's "dive" into the end zone...Swann and Franco, both Steelers from the 70s who were there (as former MVPs) would never have done that...Swann used to like to spike the ball over his head like a reverse dunk, but that was the extent of it. Parker's dive was done for the benefit of ESPN Sportscenter and NFL Films. That, among other things, is what ESPN has done not only to the NFL, but to all sports.
10) I hate Suzy Kolber and Michelle Tafoya. Hard to say which one I hate more, probably Kolber. Can't stand Chris Berman either...
11) We definitely need to do SOMETHING about the officials. This whole season has been hurt by one terrible call after another. I think the worst call was Hasselbeck's penalty on the block/tackle

Looked like Cowher was chewing a bad steak he paid 29 bucks for when Parker did that. Would have been real funny if he somehow cranked his shoulder or neck... Nothing like paying someone millions to screw around.
As for the TD by Rottenburbers... I also saw the ball over the line for half a frame, and the call was made in real time. What was disturbing was the ref running over with one arm up... like he would if he were going to mark the ball, next it was called a TD. Perhaps there was another ref off camera with a better vies that called it a TD as the other guy ran? I don't know... but I think by the rules it was a TD.
Now, Seattle seems to have been juked for the TD pass where one leg was in, and the other foot hit the pylon. On the radio (Score 790am 99.7fm RI) they were refering to a piece a writer from Providence or Boston wrote the rules as "If the reciever has one foot in and one foot hits the pylon it is called a reception and a TD, as the pylon is part of the ground and the endzone extends into infinity." They were not able to find this anywere in the NFL rules, but will be talking with him soon. I think his name is Krazner or Crazner from the Providence Journal now that I think back.
As for the flag out of reach and a push in the endzone play... that was a bad push, and I wish the reciever could have that second back. There was little need to lift the arms at that point, as harmless as the contact was. He would do that different for sure. That play will also only get called 3 out of 7 times is my guess.
Seattle fan, I do feel for you. If we were talking about the pats I'm sure I would also rant a bit more, and be much more upset with the refs.

LOL, I agree 100%...I've heard that Chuck Noll (and probably a few other coaches from that time) used to say to their players, "when you get into the end zone, act like you've been there before. Act as though getting into the endzone is what you're SUPPOSED to do, don't act shocked that you got in there".

Yes, you're right about the ref (or line judge) 🙂
My first thought when the play happened was that he might be checking to make sure Ben still had possession of the ball...but on the reverse angle it was clear that Ben never fumbled. I don't know why he delayed the TD signal the way he did... I wonder if the officials are starting to worry too much about the review of their calls, rather than just calling it the way they see it. There seems to be a lot of hesitation in many of these cases.

Yeah, I'd like to see that play again, I only saw the play during the game, and haven't seen it again on Sportscenter or anything... If you've seen the play again, maybe you can answer this question... did the ball itself actually break the plane on that play, or did the player reach his leg forward and kick the pylon? I'm not sure if in that instance the ball actually has to break the plane (seems like it should be that way, but hey, I thought I knew the rules, until this season, lol)... But even if the ball didn't break the plane, it seems to me that if his right foot was in bounds, and his left foot kicked the pylon, the absolute worst thing that should happen for the Seahawks is they should get the ball inside the one yard line.

Yes, I'm sure the ball was already in the air at the time the push occurred, the receiver probably could have just broken a step or two to his left and caught the pass... but the officials have blown so many calls this whole season, I can't fault the guy for actually getting it right...and I would feel the same way if Hines Ward had been the receiver. I would have been yelling at Ward, rather than at the official.

LOL, seems to me that Tom Brady is the guy that started all of this officiating controversy, way back when 🙂
Speaking of Brady, did it seem strange to you that Brady did the coin toss at the begninning of the game? Brady himself had to feel pretty strange. I think if they were going to have a player do that, why not one of the retired legends that were there that day? Heck, even Montana would have been glad to do it, for an extra $100,000
Overall, I was disappointed in the overall quality of play from both sides. I thought Seattle outplayed the Steelers for much of the game, the Steelers just made a couple of huge plays at the right time. But I was disappointed because there was never a time when both teams were playing well at the same time, as we've had during the Pats run the last few years. And it's too bad that Hasselbeck's confidence didn't always translate to his receivers. But I like the Seahawks as a team, they could have a nice little run in the NFC, even though the NFC East teams are getting better. In fact, I'm sure that a lot of attention next season will be focused on the improvement of the Giants, Cowboys and Redskins, I wouldn't be surprised if the Seahawks were able to slip right back to the NFC championship, and again do it 'under the radar'.
There is actually one other reason why I wouldn't have minded seeing Seattle win this game. I get tired of sportwriters who keep pointing out that "Holmgren hasn't won a Super Bowl since he had Brett Farve as his QB". Well, guess what? Farve hasn't won jack since he had Holmgren as a coach, either...
Same with Shanahan and Elway... "Shanahan hasn't won a Super Bowl, or even a playoff game (prior to this year) since he had Elway as his QB". Well, Elway got his ass kicked three times in the Super Bowl before Shanahan got there. Shanahan went to Denver and won the thing twice.
Well, Brian Billick hasn't won since he had Trent Dilfer, and Jon Gruden hasn't won since he had Brad Johnson...so what does it prove?
I gotta think that Terry Bradshaw (4-0 in Super Bowls) is getting tired of hearing about how great Elway (2-3) and Farve (1-1) are, and how they are two of the five greatest QBs ever, as ESPN keeps telling us. Bradshaw's a humble guy when it comes to his own accomplishments, but I'll bet that most players who want to win would take him over Elway and Farve every time.
Anyway, to all the Seattle fans out there, you've got a good team, I'm sure you'll be back.
To everyone that rooted for the Seahawks because they were rooting against Pittsburgh...don't worry about it. We all know how quickly a year passes. Before you know it, everyone will be 0-0 again, and we'll get to do this all over again.
To Pittsburg and the rest of their fans, congratulations on a truly incredible run!
Didn't you guys see the clutching and jostling before that "push" in the endzone? You can't do that after the 5 yard thing. If anything they should have called that. O, that guy just had bad luck and the ref was right there to call it.
Whatever, it's over.
As for the superbowl. Dissappointing. I can't believe that I actually watched the superbowl game.
In the past years after it was over, you would be like man what a game, I watched the superbowl. But this year, it's as if it didn't even happen. Low actions, low excitement.
As for people getting into the endzone. Dancing and other stuff is okay, but those people who dive into the endzone or do flips on purpose. It looks nice and all, but I always worry that they might hurt themselves and then can't play again, and how bad that would be for the team and fans. Also spiking the ball, I remember some QB doing this, I think it was Mcnabb and he injured his finger because the ball came back up and hit him. The tv announcers kept mentioning it and everyone was rubbing it in, and he must have felt pretty dumb about that, injuring himself over some dumb thing.
