the start of scream upto where Drew Barrymore is hanging in the tree was pretty scary, shame it went down hill from there. When I was younger, Jaws was scary enough!...😲

I agree, "The Shining" is certainly disturbing and would be in my selections too.

However, if your talking about moments that make you jump out your seat, then I would select the "head" in jaws or the "hand" in Carrie!

Yes, both of those were "pee in your pants" moments.

I don't know why, but most of the gory films will keep me up past my bed-time ('specially Freddy Vs Jason, too gory, no story...) but, holy hell, the Exorcist is freaky! MY freind got the DVD box set, and at a sleepover, we watched all three...*bleeaaugh!*

Psychological horror movies are just too freaky for me to watch. None really come to mind, but some of that conspiracy stuff keeps me staring at the ceiling.

"Play Misty For Me" gets my vote.

I think this is one of Clint Eastwoods first attempts at directing and starring. I was impressed because it is very believable and it will surely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Any other views on this old-timer?

No opinion on 'Play Misty for Me' but, geez, Mystic River was strange.

I watched Alien when I was 10 without knowing anything about the film or it's contents. I had nightmares for a while after I can tell you!

The scariest movie I saw in a theater was Wait Until Dark. Probably would have the same effect in a good home theater.

I didn't get to see Alien in a theater, just on TV. Very scary, even with commercials.

Alien Directors Cut gets the freakiest movie in theaters in my opinion. Also, From Dusk till Dawn was good.

What about the original "Jurassic Park"? That scene with the kids in the car with the T-Rex was great.

Along the more classic horror genre films, the original "Halloween" was good scary fun.

And for the worst horror film - I nominate "Terror Train". It was pityful.
