Is it the movie concerning the life of the young Josh Waitzkin? If yes, I saw it few years ago and I think that it was a really good movie. I don't even remember why the movie's title is about Bobby Fischer... ๐Ÿ˜•

Yes, this movie focused on Josh Waitzkin. I think the movie's title was because Josh was inspired by Bobby Fischer? not sure, though. ๐Ÿ˜

I saw it, it wasn't bad. Although they don't portray non-champion chess players very well.

Check out the movie 'Luzhin' as well, that's one of the better chess movies I know of.

yeah, it went something like this when he was in tourneys: WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, WIN, LOSS...then his dad got mad and frustrated. they didn't focus on any of the losers of all of those games, I think they should have (for a couple seconds).

Did anyone see a movie (maybe made for the TV only) about an ex boxer who became an alcoholic and ended up homeless & sleeping in the park? He was down to the level of drinking meths & topping himself when he was befriended by an old guy who played chess in the park. They played chess together, gave the guy a new focus, got him off the streets & it turned out that he had talent. He started kicking his buddies butt & in the end because a master (can't remember what level). All supposedly a true story too.
Anyone know what it was called? I found it an amazing tale of turn around, that someone who had been punched in the head for a living and then tried to drink himself to death could have this kind of ability and almost never knew, and I wouldn't mind watching it again.

Thanks. It's just a shame that the site says that the book is no longer published, & the film (BBC, 1991, which won many awards) isn't available on video. If I'm lucky I'll catch it on TV sometime, especially now I know what it is called๐Ÿ™‚

They thought Josh was the next BObby FIsher - actually tried to force him into that mold. But he was more concerned with being a regular Kid. Bruce Pandolfini , JOsh's coach in the movie has quite a few chess books and Josh is the Mind behind Chessmaster which always comes with a Bruce Pandolfini section.

Great movie

Bobby Fisher's Mum was greater than him.
If you really want to do something.Do Bobby's Mum.
She came to Britain to picket.
I love Bobby's Mum.
I would have loved to be on a line with HER.
I don't believe in Darwanism.
But he got it from somewhere.
God bless Bobby's Mum

In Belgium the film's title was 'Innocent moves', not trying to attract extra attention and money through (ab?)using Bobby's name.

Hey, wasn't there an episode of Columo were the killer was a Chess player (Nimoy..?) - I bet it was a great episode.

I also seem to remember Christopher Lambert in something - Knight Moves....? Or maybe I'm thinking of a Channel 5 film on Friday nights ๐Ÿ˜ต

!~TONY~!,Of course I do.How else could we be having this conversation.
What I meant about Darwanism was in a generation sense:
Tall parents have children near average height etc.
