Yahoo do pretty well out of adverts.. but I don't think they charge on a per-click basis.

Also we only have max of six games at any one time. So theory says less bandwidth is used.. costing rhp less.

Also.. All I know is russ dosn't need to work...

Huh? Running and developing a site like this is a lot of work.

A labour of love. After reading the forums from many years’ back, It appears that income on a serious level is a recent thing.
This site also appeared on ebay for a period.
If it had been sold, perhaps this brilliant site would not be so brilliant.
Their concept of allowing free but limited use is an excellent choice and I hope that it pays off for them in a big way.
Having read a few posts by previous users who were active many years ago, they have tolerated a lot and managed to get through without a scratch (or so it appears).
I do like a good success story.

Well done to all concerned.

Time for tea.

Also, Russ has said on countless occasions how he'd like more time to develop the site but outside paying work prevents him. It's obvious to anyone who's ever been involved in web development projects, that this site does not currently make a huge financial profit. It's more a labour of love, which is why it galls me sometimes to see people intent on picking it apart for its minor imperfections.

Well theres a little bit of work to do on the site every now and then.. I notice most mornings around 7-9am the site goes offline.. I expect the site is backing up the database.. but looks to me like automated process "which is how most site work" I been here for a while and never seen a change to the design.. or features added.. (or atleast not for non-subs) all the people who keep this site running ie the forum mods.. games mods do it for free.. they're volunteers.

But anyway lets take 1000.. 1000.. subs..
1000 * $29.99 = $29990pa
thats about £15k and meets national minimum wage.. I think rhp has more than 1000 subs..

Except that's gross. I hate to think what the yearly bandwidth bill is.

Please don’t take this the wrong way Exy. 🙂

I may just be ignorant of the facts, but are you basing your assumption that income is not as good as it should be due to the appearance of the site?
I have been involved in one or two web projects, and I think that the site holds a fresh and uncluttered appeal to it.
No site is going to be everyone’s cup-o-soup, but this one has a calm feeling to it, until you read the forums

But you haven't mentioned overheads, US server space, maintenance, bandwidth, etc. And in the last year there have been many new features added for subs - clan leagues / improved sieges / clan forums to name just a few. You try supporting a family on £15k a year in the UK!

No, I love the look and feel of the site, it's a great strength. The income of the site is most probably less than you'd imagine because despite a small annual subscription the uptake seems to be low and there are a lot of overheards you've probably not considered.

I know £15k is chicken s**t but that's only for 1000 users.. I rekon rhp has 3000 subs

theres over 7000 users here.. I think it would be safe to say 3000 of them are subs..I havn't counted

(This is not an opportunity to start a subscription war and shouldnt be taken as one) 🙂
So it would appear that giving subscribers more functionality actually has a negative effect on income.
Would subscribers embrace subscribing without the extra features?

(Dont anybody dare start turning this into a jibe)
