Explain?
The society has been changing since the late 70's (Thatcher, Raygun, etc.) means a greater emphasis on the individual instead of the group.
However, the human is a group animal. A lot of our problems, longings, ideas, are resounded in the group. We get feed-back and grow up.
When the individual becomes greater than the group, the group no longer is important. It's all about "ME", how much I can earn. How far I can go. Etc.
Now, without the group cushioning extremities, the individual just deals with it him/herself (generally a him, because females tend to create better social groups by themselves).
If you look at Japan, this leads to a lot of teenage suicides.
If you look at the US, where outward bombast has been held in high esteem since Steve McQueen starred in "The great escape", it leads to unchecked aggression.
