of hard factual info available on which to opine assertively, less than 24 hours since the event.

I agree, Darvlay. Looks like there isn't yet much reliable information to base an opinion on.

That was Grampy's observation, not mine.

From what I've read/seen so far, it looks like a case of PTSD by proxy. The shooter had been exposed to countless returning soldiers with horror stories and developed a deep dread of deployment. As deployment approached, his dread increased and outwardly manifested itself wrapped in religious zealotry as an emotional accelerant.

One side will claim him as hero. Another will brand him as terrorist. He is neither. Unable to escape his own situation and unwilling to end his own life by direct action, he chose to act out in a way that he likely hoped would end in his own death.

As individuals and groups, we are increasingly under pressures far beyond what our coping mechanisms are meant to endure. Expect more of this.

Nice job of being a apologist for him. And Stalin wet his bed as a small child and therefore thats why he was the way he was.

The theory he got PTSD by osmosis is just laughable, pathetic and ludicrous

No it's called "projection" and a well known effect in psychology. Look it up.

And it hasn't been apologetic it was just explaining something.

Yes its a 'theory ' that floats along like a lead ballon.

To suggest it is a blatant apologist BS to me and a outright insult to those killed and wounded by this sorry excuse for a human being.

Like I said in a earlier post.. if he was so distressed, him putting a bullet in his head was a more appropriate action on his part .

I'm appalled but certainly not surprised by all the compassion for Mr. Hasan in this forum and none for the vistims of his actions. But having been around here for a while, I consider the sources of the comments and its self explanatory why.

It depends...

How much compassion do you feel for the children, women and elderly killed
or wounded during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq?
Didn't see you concerned when Saddam and his sons were feeding them into wood chippers or using chemical weapons on them. Have to assume that was fine with you.

You stink of hypocrisy

Well I can see nobody who is apologetic or supportive for the actions of the murderer. But people have to come to grips withe things like that and the first question people ask is not: who but: Why?

And suggesting to directly execute the man provides no answer for the "why". If it would be any consolation for the victims and the ones they left is not clear to me.

Actually it's hypocritical to value victims against each other ("Us lives are more dear than any others..."

By the way, sbcat has given the most balanced opinion so far... so funny you
fall with him into the old bushism of "with me or against me". I guess it's o.k.
at your young age, dude. But someday you have to grow, just make it quick, ok?
