Crewe 0 Bradford 3

Second from bottom, League One. 18 months ago challenging for the Championship playoffs. Any team can have a bad spell but with a manager who's been there 23 years, surely it's terminal.

He's been the best manager of all, nobody doubts what he's done for us, but it's not about that, it's about what's happening to our club, now. I love the guy, keep him at the club, but upstairs, please, before we end up where he brought us from.

There would probably be no significant difference between Gradi and a new manager. Loyalty to a manager often pays off. In the early 1970s, Saints took on Lawrie McMenemy. He got us relegated in his first season. The Saints board stuck by him (nowadays, it would be automatic sacking). His second term in Div. 2 was terrible. The Saints board stood by him. Saints then won the FA Cup, did well in Europe, got promoted, eventually coming second in Div. 1 just one point behind Liverpool. The attacking style of Saint's play in those days was a joy to watch - we have never been better than in those days.

Damnit, I've got nothing worth saying (here or anywhere else...) but I can't have this ruining my fun.

We know, but we don't want to end up back in League Two for all this blind loyalty. If Richard Branson hit hard times and ended up running just one record shop again the shareholders would hardly say, ah well, at least we had planes and trains back then, well done, Richard.

It's time for fresh ideas and new energy.
