I have the opportunity to get a full-time job as an Oil Boiler Engineer. It is pretty good money and I'll get put through all the training.
Oh, and I'll be working with my best mate of 20 years.
However, I currently earn reasonable money for part-time work, in a University (with a very nice view, ahem!), and I get to spend most of my working hours playing chess.
Plus, I have access to lots of computer equipment, Audio and Film equipment that I can borrow at any time.
I really don't know what to do! Is 28 too old to begin learning a trade?

I am 28, was working part-time, teaching, at university. Am now trying to work full-time in a bank (teach some evenings).
I miss the easy days but I think you need a challenge. And anyway you'll have fun working with your mate.
I don't no diddly squat but I say go for it.
ps we are getting on, almost 30!! π²
Please don't remind me of the big 3-0. I got moved up a year at school so most of my mates are turning, and have turned, 30 this year.
Not a single one of them has not moaned about it!
Thanks for the advice and a strange coincidence!
-did I mention that I will probably spend most of my time driving around the North York Moors (for the gas job) - that could be very nice indeed!

Actually, I am 32 and found that my worst age was 29. Spent a whole year worrying about reaching 30 that by the time I reached it I found it not too bad at all. π

I wish I could be cloned, so that I could do both.
I really, really like the University life, and I have an oppotunity to learn Mandarin from my collleague (and most of my students).
But, I really can not afford to stay part-time for ever, and the position I'm in is dead-end.
I'm going to sleep on it over the weekend, and see what the big picture looks like on Monday!
Thanks to everyone, and hope you all have a nice weekend!

Sure you'll miss dossing about all day playing chess and perving at the young students, but you can do that at home on the internet!

Good gawd you guys , you make a couple of years sound like a case of the clap ! I'm almost 45 , and love the age I'm at . I hike , hunt , drink , romance , etc every bit as much as when I was 25 . If you're worried about adding another year to the tally remember that if you stop adding numbers on , you lose .

So make the move now. Remember the good times you had as you go thru life, but never let them hold you back.
Cheers
Take the jump man. Time for a new episode in life. kay, yeah, it sounds like you've got it cushty in your present job. But it doesn't sound like you are developing yourself too much there. The good view maybe obscured by high rises in a few years time, and how much longer can you really cope with talking to us lot?
Just think of all the new people you will meet, the skills you will learn and the places you will get to travel to.
Sounds to me like you know what you want to do, you just want confirmation from everyone else that it's the right choice. Go 'frit dude.
