You can use Chess programs as a tool for analize games and play positions you can reach in your openings, find novelties, but if you beat a chess engine or not it doesn't mean you are improving, cause chess engines can beat best players now.
Instead if you use well you can see good results against Humans.
GL with your software.

Yup, saw that too. Hard to believe a computer could make a tactical blunder, or not to mention one that simple.

I have discovered with the shredder 9 that I have, that it is a learning machine. You have to feed it games for it to play for crap. It learns by running games. I don't know about that game that was played but it all depends on how you set up the engine to play. There are huge combinations of values that it places on play. It is all in how it is set up by the owner of the program.

Wrong. Shredder like the rest of the chessbase family learns which openings to play based on previous results (if you look in the opening book it'll have red and green numbers next to some). It does not change the way it analyses positions based on results. The user can change how much value it places in things like piece activity and king safety.
Shredder does not change it's middle and endgame play intuitively based on previous games.

The game I posted was played in a tournament within the last week. The operator of the computer would obviously be someone who knew what they were doing. Apparently it was a hash table issue (where previous analysis of lines are stored so they don't have to be analysed again). One in a million chance apparently.

That is what I meant by "feeding" it. if the hash tables are cleared you have nothing but the basic chess engine programming. It learns...I don't know if that is the right word for it, but anyway it stores data from analyzed games it has run through.

I thought that shredder was aquired by the dingle fritz family?

Shredder doesn't seem to be completely moronic; through 7 rounds, it's 5-1-1 and in first place in the Mercosur Cup. http://www.chesscenter.com/twic/twic.html

It is pretty moronic out of the box. I could beat it in speed chess if that is any qualification of my assumption. I cant anymore. I have been feeding it games from the masters and computer tourneys...letting it chew on them. I must say that it has evolved.

Hash tables are used for storing information during the game. The information is stored in your RAM so it is cleared as soon it isn't being used and is needed. It isn't carried over to future games.
