Any skaters on rhp?
I want to buy a skateboard... I'm a beginner, I'm basically just looking for something to roll along the sidewalks with. Long story, don't ask 😛
So, since I know nothing about skateboards... would this one be fitting for me?

I ice skate and roller blade with all of the grace of a thrown basket of laundry. Any time I've ever gotten near a skate board it's resulted in immediate head injuries. I am the only person I've ever heard of who had a 360degree cartwheel crash while cross country skiing on flat ground. I have never been on a horse that has not tried to murder me.

Stay away angie, just say no. Exercise and physical activity kill and maim.

(I don't even jump in puddles anymore.)

You can see the URL if you click on reply and quote.
Gonna stick with that one because it's cheap 😀

You really need to spell it "SK8". Then people won't think you're a beginner. Trust me, it's much cooler. Changing your handle to "SK8R GRRRRRL" may also be helpful. 😉

Sorry, that's all the advice I have. I snowboard, ice "sk8" and rollerblade, but I don't sk8board anymore.

A little advice I can give you Angie...

Be patient, VERY patient
I used to skate when I was in my teens, and it took me months to learn new tricks. The initial few (ollie, pop shove it, kickflip) took me about a month to learn all three and get them down pat, then after that, either I started to suck really bad or the tricks got harder.

Hi Angie - if all you want to do is cruise, you'd be much better getting a longboard: just Google "longboards" and loads of sites should pop up.

If you want to learn a few tricks (prepare for bruised shins and elbows) you'd need a normal board. These can be expensive for a full set up - once you've bought the deck, the grip tape, the trucks, the wheels, bearings and; if you're safety concious, pads; it all adds up.

If you're not too serious about it, I'd go for one that's already been set up completely for you - you can always upgrade later, particularly as the more ambitious you get, the more likely you are to damage your equipment - boards tend to snap a lot, especially when doing rail-slides.

Hope this helps!

Yea totaly agree with Favs. I try to longboard as much as poss. Im not one for tricks and things, but i love nothing more than flying through thr streets carving as I go. If you're feeling a little brave you could go for a smaller board and learn to slide, check out www.gravityskateboards.com.

If I were you I'd buy a big cruiser. I own Lush Bahari 44 for cruising
and Gravity Carve 39 for sliding.

Enjoy
