Seal's 'Kiss From a Rose' always baffled me:

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh,
The more I get of you,
The stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray,
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
I've been kissed by a rose
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
...And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
...been kissed by a rose on the gray.
There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.
Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Procol Harem's A Whiter Shade of Pale:

We skipped a light fandango,
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor.
I was feeling kind of seasick,
But the crowd called out for more.
The room was humming harder,
As the ceiling flew away.
When we called out for another drink,
The waiter brought a tray.

And so it was that later,
As the miller told his tale,
That her face at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

She said there is no reason,
And the truth is plain to see
That I wandered through my playing cards,
And would not let her be
One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast.
And although my eyes were open,
They might just as well have been closed.

And so it was later,
As the miller told his tale,
That her face at first just ghostly,
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

I would suspect that for many lyrics like these it is not about the textual meaning but the picture painted. You have to BE there to understand them. If you are NOT then no amount of explanation will suffice.

I always thought heroes and villains was pretty nonsensical.

"Ive been in this town so long that back in the city
Ive been taken for lost and gone
And unknown for a long long time

Fell in love years ago
With an innocent girl
From the spanish and indian home
Home of the heroes and villains

Once at night catillian squared the fight
And she was right in the rain of the bullets that eventually brought her down
But shes still dancing in the night
Unafraid of what a dudell do in a town full of heroes and villains

Heroes and villains
Just see what youve done

Heroes and villains
Just see what youve done

Stand or fall I know there
Shall be peace in the valley
And its all an affair
Of my life with the heroes and villains

My children were raised
You know they suddenly rise
They started slow long ago
Head to toe healthy weathy and wise

Ive been in this town so long
So long to the city
Im fit with the stuff
To ride in the rough
And sunny down snuff Im alright
By the heroes and

Heroes and villains
Just see what youve done

Heroes and villains
Just see what youve done

Luskus Delph - Procol Harum

Tulips lips oh luskus delph
Your baking breath breeds body "x"
With silken measures try to gauge
The inside sweetness of your cave.

Peach preserve your simmering jewel
Hid away like orphan's gruel
Help me find the widow's crack
Make me stick like ceiling wax

Almond eyed my turkish pearl
Burn me up sweet oyster girl
Shove me in your steaming vat
Make me split like chicken fat

If you have to ask what this about then you are too young to be here.

A few hit songs with lyrics by John Lennon had no meaning.

I didn't say none of them had meaning.

THAT song literally is nonsense!

The lyrics are meant to sound like real words, but are made up in response to criticism from those who interpreted his lyrics.

That song is also a testimony to just how talented of a musician he was. He turned nonsense lyrics into a widely-selling song! Alot of musicians these days are lacking of that kind of talent.

What? No!

It's got meaning. Boy and girl sweet on each other. Not deep, profound meaning, granted, but its got meaning.

Hey, I got that one off the back of a cereal box! The meaning was clear -- people will buy any crappy cereal if you reward them!

Come on now, Honey Combs tasted good. (Not that I would know from having the box to cut the record off the back)
