"What's a 'dial-up connection'?" I can imagine them saying out loud!
Well a dial up connection is shocking awful. I have had to revert back to one temporarily. This is because my wonderful ISP (Tiscali), left me high and dry, out of spite.
I requested that they terminate my agreement with them. After much bullying and pressure on their behalf, for me to stay with them, I eventually got the message through that their support was substandard and their service was even worse, and that I really really really, honestly, no longer wished them to remove hard earned gold nuggets from my bank account.
Eventually the bitch said "You do realise that we require 30 days notice to terminate your account?!"
"Fine fine fine" I said, "When is tha last day that I will be able to use your service?"
"November 12th sir"
"Okay, thank you goodbye"
The next evening, I attempted to connect to RHP. Error message 691 'Username and password invalid'.
Oh dear, it appears that they terminated my agreemeent with immediate affect. No chance to sign up with another ISP, and no chance of reading any unread E-mails that had been sent to my two Tiscali e-mail addresses. Or to redirect any mail elsewhwere.
They are a bunch of charlatans, and I would advise anyone to steer well clear of them. I cannot be bothered banging on about how badly they treated me prior to this, but believe me, they are crap heads in disguise.
Good low prices = low standard
Anyway, back to the original point. I had completely forgot how slow dial-up really is. I will never be impetuous with a broadband connection ever again. I feel like JC in the wilderness. ๐
Final point. I read an article about some service called onspeed.com. Apparently, they compress all the inoframtion before it is sent to you, and it can increase your download speeds fivefold, be it a dial up connection, broadband, or whatever. And alll for the small fee of £24.99/annum. I'm tempted, but wondered if anyone else has any experience of this service.
Please reply quickly, I have to go to bed in two hours.

Call up, point out they've broken the TOC's and threaten to take the issue up with the Telecommunications Ombudsman. They will HAVE to turn your service back on.... then you can guilt trip them for compensation for having no service.
Originally posted by Daemon SinThanks for the advice but... May well be a breach of TOC's, but I'm back online now, and happy to see the back of them. I pay a month in arrears, so I have not already paid for this month. The last thing I want to do is have them turn me back on again.
