Sorry to all those that are waiting (very!) patiently while playing me but after a phoneline fault last month I have been unable to get online.British telecom took 24 days to fix this fault (even though we told them where it was from day one!) so thanks for waiting and not timing me out! I thank all those involved,unless you work for BT;-)

Broadband in the UK still relies on a phone line, unless you live in one of the few areas that have cable TV.
So no help there.

Got broadband! To be honest the engineers were great unlike the customer care/fault report operators!!!

I work for BT and I agree, they are a bunch of muppets!
3 weeks to repair a line fault? I bet the could have done it in 3 days really!

Well amoung the excuses giving by the helpline operators were;

"we have no cable left & have to order it in"

"we need specialist digging equipment"......this by the way was 3 guys a spade and a wheelbarrow!

"we need written permission from council to dig" rubbish as fault on private ground & I contacted council who knew nothing of this"

btw it was 24 days in total but i'm not angry as BT are giving us compensation.....£1 (yes one whole pound!) per day....whoope i'm rich!

In the US most people have cable. It's not that way in the UK? I'm surprised.

They went mad laying cable for a couple of years then just stopped. So if you are one of the unfortunate ones like myself, it's just not available. They will only lay a cable now if enough people in one area express interest in it. I think satellite digital television is going to supercede cable in the long run. You can buy a set top box for £30 - £40 and get 30 or so channels for free.

odd that cos i just had my line fixed by BT after 10 days of faults,apparantly they didnt want to put me on a single line it would be *ahem* expensive so my line is ..sorry was a "dax"... did a lot of waiting around and speaking to line managers and have got a whole £34.00 for my trouble ...we love BT... now have my own line which i thought i had anyway and a massive connection speed of ..wait for it 31.2 kbps

Does the generator include a Welsh to make them run?
