Sox won today... Yankees are off to play Twins? Sox have Devil Rays????
Anyway...... Yankee fans started cheering when they won game one.. What about game 2 and 3? What? Sox won.
This season... Sox 11... Y ...[text shortened]... nkees 8.

Better clinch that division with magic number 4?
The Red Sox are better than the Yankees in the following categories: ERA, runs allowed, batting average against, batting average, hits, runs scored, and probably a few others I'm not thinking about. Do you know what the biggest difference is between these two teams? One of them has trouble beating the Baltimore Orioles, and the other one doesn't. I doubt that difference will prove to be relavent once the playoffs start.

The difference is that the Sox don't have(and never will)the mental toughness to shake off repeated failures. They have ingrained in themselves, and their fans,a sense of fatal pessimism that they will never win another World Series. This is not the case with the Yankees, who climb off the deck after a loss, and get back to business with typical NY grit. I'm more concerned about the 3 games the Yanks have with the Twins this week.

Originally posted by eagles54There is nothing special about Joe Torre. He'd had plenty of opportunities before the Yankees and he never won anywhere, save for one successful season with the Braves in the early '80s. Surround a manager with enough talent, and the team will pretty much manage itself.
Biggest difference between Yanks and Sox?
Yanks have Torre, Sox have Francona.
I'm not saying he isn't a good manager, but please don't make him out to be more than he is. It's Jeter who is the heart and soul of that team.

Originally posted by eagles54Well, I'm not about to nominate Francona "Manager of the Year", to be sure, but he hasn't been altogether hideous this year. Sure, the B.K. Kim experiment last week was disastrous, and cost them a game that they could certainly have used. And he has a tendency to stay with his starters a bit too long sometimes. But he's kept the clubhouse loose and fun, and lets face it, with the characters the Sox have on the team this year, it just wasn't built for a disciplinarian like Pinella or a stern, no-nonsense guy like Torre. The Sox might not be everyone's perfect example of a team, but in an odd way, the chemistry they have in that clubhouse seems to work for them.
Torre beats any manager the Sox have had by a country mile since, who, Joe Morgan? Francona will be the undoing of that team. And yes, Jeter is the heart & soul, but Torre keeps the ship on a nice, even keel.

Everyone has failed to mention that the Red Sox won't win (even though I would love it if they did) because they are CURSED! With so many religious nuts in these forums, i'm surprised no one is basing their prediction on superstition!
Regardless, Let's Go Jays! (next year)
