The guy Gresh on my 790 the Score radio is saying that soccer is worthless. If the US doesn't care, no one will.

He also said that if the US trained 6 months they would dominate any sport on Earth.

Here is the message I sent him, wonder if he'll read it on-air.

---------------------------------

First off, I don't much care for the soccer thing. I can't get behind a game that might have a 2-0 'blow-out'. The field is too big, and I need to see some scoring to keep interest in a game. I don't much care for Hockey for the same reasons, but that is another story.

I think you are showing your ignorance by thinking the world cares weather we are on board or not. They don't, I know because I am in contact with people around the world every day.

Also, you say America could do it if they wanted. Get anyone from the US, train them... and they would be the best.

Well, Gresh... how did we do in the World Baseball? How did our Basketball team do? How did our Hockey team do? We didn't win any of these competitions, did we? Totally blowing what you've said out of the water.

Thinking people around the world care about us is really silly. It's been going on a long time without us, and it will keep going on without us. It might be less popular if it were played every 1 or 2 years... but only because the small countries wouldn't have any reason to watch this event. You know what though? They would still run their own leagues, and soccer would still be their favorite sport. Oh, and they call it football.

The sport will perhaps never take off in the USA... but I guarantee you the world couldn't care any less.

Me in XXX XXXX.

your credablility might be lowered a little by using the wrong "weather" LOL. but all in all its a nice letter, to the point. I think you wasted minutes of your life by even writng to Gresh. These radio guys think they know it all and don't give a rat turd what we think.

I don't think he realizes that the US National team does train their butts off, its just that other countries have better soccer teams

Chances are the fat guy can't spell, so with luck I'll be ok with that spelling blunder!

All good points, except the part aboot hockey. 😞

One thing you might have mentioned is that the Soviet Union, with all its great resources and computer technology, attempted to create a world champion boxer. What they failed to anticipate was that true championship spirit comes from the heart. In the end, Drago failed to bring home the belt, but I think we all learned an important lesson.

Gee, his recent lobotomy must've also affected his memory. Didn't we recently participate in some world sports tournament called ... wait, it's coming to me ... Oh, yeah. The Olympics. Seems to me other countries won medals as well.

Very nicely done! But he will never respond. Like any of those talk show hosts anytime a rational rebuttal is presented they will either ingore it or talk / shout over it.

I'm glad you messaged the swine.

Any American that keeps up with sports in general knows that soccer is the most popular game in the world. However, a lot of us Americans seem to think the world revolves around our country, therefore, the most popular game in the world just HAS to be basketball.

I'm not one of those Americans.

Except what he meant was:

"If I can see that you hate the oppression you live under and secretly want to be American, and you can express that clearly, then it's all good."
