Rugby union has 15 players and is a bit more structured than rugby league.
League only has 12 players (I think) and has basicaly the same rules as union except there isn't rucks. When a players' tackled he gets up and the ball gets distributed by a scrumhalf again. You have to score a try within 5 tackles or kick the ball. League is very exciting and is more focussed on loose play and scoring tries (although it's not really played in South Africa) Scrums only involve 3 players.
(I think I've got this right, although I've only watched League a bit, haven't played it though)

Let's talk a bit about sports 'cos I just love sports

Anybody wanna discuss the upcoming rugby world cup or maybe the cricket world cup that concluded recently?

On the subject of the cricket - man but SA had some bad luck.
Freekin ausies are winning everything nowadays.

Let's say historically they are (+ South Africa and France).
For this year's world cup I'd put my money on either England or New Zealand.
England is playing great rugby now and the NZ teams are playing great rugby in the Super12.

League has 13 players, basically you loose both flankers. League is all about defense from what I can make out. If the oppenent does not break your line they will not score, if they do its very hard to stop them. I watched it when I was in Oz and it was good there, but here it just seems endless crashing the line.

Union is a quality game

The West Indies were the the only "unlucky team" as they lost their points against Bangladesh. Austrailia were just awesome - they rode there luck, smashed the opposition bowling, while Gillespie, Lee and McGrath were in a different class.

Well like I said, union is more structured, more about set moves and tactics (with more kicking). League is probably the mixture of sevens and union.

Well that depends on your definition of luck innit?
Lost against an in-form Lara when we played the windies (dropped him twice).
Lost against an in-form Flemming when we played NZ (dropped him on 52 if I remember correctly) and we could still have won if it wasn't for the rain.
Lost against the rain again when we played Sri Lanka.

SA just isn't meant to win a cricket world cup.
The ausies are a great team yes.

Yeah, it doesn't really bother me any more.
Nowadays I play squash, golf and action cricket.

Crowley, answering you from the other thread, yes i do watch rugby, but i am a league fan at heart. If the kiwis win again this year though i might stop watching altogether 😠.

As latex said league has 13 players, and it varies quite abit from rugby. Besides each tackle ending in both teams backing off 10 metres and the ball always going back to the team in control (hence a tackle count), the scoring is slightly different and possession of the ball is a lot more important.

For the first time in almost 10 years my league team is doing really well (please, if you're from aust and follow league own up, i have an irresistable urge to gloat), but to balance things out the brumbies are taking the porcelain plummet.

And talking about cricket, i couldn't believe SA messed up and didn't realize they needed a run off that last ball. Heart breaking way to go out.
