Howard Stern has been playing more chess of late and has been wanting to get better at the game. I sent him an invitation to come to RHP and play some of the people on the site who are his fans like myself and rbmorris.
However, I learned to today that Judith Polgar has contacted him and is offering him lessons. My feelings are hurt. She is charging $150 an hour. My lessons would have been free.

Good news though. Maybe Howard will help popularize chess a little more.
Originally posted by rbmorrisI'm kind of like you , I can't catch everything as I have a job where I don't get paid to listen to the radio, so what I do is log on to the website and read the re-cap of the show. That way you get to see pics of the lesbian dominatrix and all that.

I was recently at my sister's wedding in Ravello, Italy. One night, at one of the restaurants overlooking the Mediterranean, Woody Harrelson had the misfortune of eating at table next to my Irish relatives and friends, a rowdy, rambunctious lot. After a few bottles of vino, they were in fine fettle, and suddenly elected to decamp en masse to Woody's table, and demand photos with him. He looked to scared to refuse. I was still sober enough to emphasize with his plight.
In any case, my sister, who had come to Ravello in advance of me, told me that Woody was occasionally seen in the main square, playing chess with this friend, fellow movie star Owen Wilson. I was extremely keen to meet him and play, and hung out there as much as I could. I was keen to get my first movie star scalp--may even two. Alas, Woody and Owen failed to materialize.
However, Woody seems to be a really cool guy. He might be willing to join. I think Russ should consider a few celebrity endorsements.
(Come to think of it, what about offering Pamela Anderson lessons too?)

Woody is all in to hemp. He came to Kentucky a few years ago and it was all controversial because hemp is associated with pot. He wanted hemp to be a "cash crop" to make rope and things like that. I think he was run out of town. We Kentuckians don't want them drugs in our state, never mind that we have the highest death rate from tobacco in the country.
Do you think one could make chess pieces from hemp?

How on earth can you listen to that clown? It's as though they gave darvlay a talk show.
Originally posted by kirksey957I mean really, what a waste of money (even though Stern will never have to worry about it).
Say some more.
It would be like teaching a one legged man how to kick a foot ball. Sterns has no more aptitude for playing chess than my wife’s basset hound has any aptitude for learning manners and personal space.....as a matter of fact I've now started to teach that dog how to play chess and she is coming along quite nicely even though she eats the pieces.
