I drove my wife to the airport this morning here in Salt Lake City. She is on her way to California for a week of fun. I would have been with her had I not burned my face off at an air show last saturday. I look and feel like death. The trip is the Directors Tour... sponsered by the Utah Museum Of Fine Arts, where my wife has been a volunteer Docent for the past 3 years. They are taking in the Getty and a couple of plays in LA (including 'The Producers' which is one of my all time favorites) then down to San Diego for a few days of water and sun. Poor me. Stuck home with a face that feels like the south end of a north bound camel... who sat in petrol then the camp fire!
At the airport, i walked in and watched as her group passed through security. An Elderly man, in his eighties failed the metal detector several times and it was decided that he had steel in his shoes. A soldier with an m16 rifle handed his weapon to the old man, knelt down and with the old gentleman leaning on his shoulder while cradling the m16 tight to his chest, removed the guys shoes for him. I, and several others were chuckling mightily at this. When he had the gentlemans shoes off... the soldier politely took the weapon back and resumed his station. Several of us started to applaud him and he turned a bright red and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Some days just start out better than others... your know?
