Is there an option to play with with alternate styles of pieces. Basically I wondered if there was and option with pieces that appeared to be 3D

Including, the OP'll be happy to hear, several 3D-looking ones.

Have you got a 3D computer and 3D glasses? 😛

I use a "raised" style set in a cool blue board colouring from the choice available in the board and piece options. Chess "purists" here tell me it's revolting, but as I'm not a chess purist, no good at chess, and don't give a monkeys what nerds think anyway, I would recommend it to you.
