be sure to visit wikipedia on the subject of sudoku to learn the simple way to do it... otherwise you might sit there writing numbers over and over like I did when I started, cuz some dumb guy showed me the game.

They are easier to do on paper, so print it...

They are easiest to do here: http://www.matematikk.org/sudoku/sudoku.php
You can cross off numbers there, and you can also check underways if you have made a mistake. Feels a bit like cheating, and it gets boring very quickly because you don't really have to think much, but I don't think I could do the difficult 9x9 ones without writing down anything else than the correct number. The first time it took me almost an hour even with crossing off numbers.

I didn't look at the wikipedia article, but I read the tips at the site I linked to (which is in Norwegian) after I had done some puzzles on my own, but they only told me what I was doing anyway. It's not difficult to find out how to solve them.

If you take notes to do a sudoku puzzle you are a pansy. It is simply a process of elimination. Go with the ones you know working in all three directions (down, across and the square you are in) and then they, if not easy, are doable without taking notes.

I usually do the sudoku while taking my mid-morning dump at work. (Too much information)

A good online sudoku is found at the LA Times' site.

Is there any way to shut off that check option? There is a check option at web sud... but you don't need to hit it. Plus I like to use paper so I can use dots.

No sense in doing these puzzles if you can plug nembers til it says 'that's right'.

My page has level 'evil'. I'm willing to bet Roy Al Chick Ken could do them in 20 or 40 minutes.

The only notes I use are the dots... I had made a list... but that is the wrong way to do them.

I don't even much care to keep notes on what numbers are done, I can tell at a glance.

It doesn't check automatically. I started using it after finding out that I had made a mistake when I was almost done, and I had to start all over again (well, almost). It tells you if everything is correct (which will usually be the case), and if something is wrong, you can choose if you want to search for the mistake yourself or whether you want them to take that number out for you (you won't be told the correct number).

How do you use dots? (Edit: I looked at the wikipedia article, so I guess you use them just like numbers?)

I think one thing that people do wrong is only thinking about what can go in to a square rather than thinking about what cannot. Use a process of elimination.

I like this one the best:

Does this mean I have to stop pronouncing the name as Flabby when I see it?

Flabby is fine. Phlaby... Phla.. bibit... bit or P.

Edit~~ That page should have an option to type numbers... I don't like clicking! Anyway, I would do them on paper so I'll look for a print option. My page does it by number and hardness, so I've printed puzzles like my birth year and phone number etc.

Nords, find this image at wiki

that is where it says how to use the dots.
