June 21 (First Day of Summer and longest day of the year) is the date on which Evelyn and I were married; noon January 9 (the date decades later when she departed this life) was the shortest day of the year. Nice thread, drewnogal. Thanks.

We celebrated our pagan "sixthmas" today. (in NZ)
    Secret Santa.
    Crackers.
    Turkey,
    stuffing
    Brussel sprouts
    Roast potatoes
    Even a tree!
    It was great. πŸ˜€

amusingly ... today was sunnier than our Christmas BBQ !!!!

i wanna make this thread all about ME...

i remember the very first solstice, oh yeah, you see, i was THERE...
the sun was steamin, heck, i left footprints in the asphalt...
you see, i was barefoot, oh yeah!!! i ran around barefoot EVEN IN THE WINTERTIME...
and that brings me to another fond memory...
    the day my dog died...
yeah, that was a great day, that dog stunk to high heaven and shed enough hair to weave a rug every third day...
    but,
after that, we got a cat...
    but,
it wasn't a cat, it was a SKUNK!!!

    golly, i love my thread...

A sunny day in the UK is worth a mention on any date.

We had a wonderful solstice here in Bern. Friends came over for BBQ. We waited until dark and set up the bat detector. It detects the 'radar' squeaks of bats and converts them to human-audible range. They sound like clicks or shorts raps on a snare drum.
