I do not imagine retiring. I hope to work as long as I can and I presume that whatever ends up preventing me from doing so will, shortly thereafter, be the death of me. It might not work out that way, of course.

what i consider 'retirement', the thingie i am doing/am right now, is the ability to pick and choose the labor i will perform...

these types of jobs do not pay well...

    but,
if i choose well the types of work to be performed, then personal gratification is the reward...

choose well, grasshopper, and be prosperous...

The co-workers who are not into reading (essentially the extraverts) look at me like I'm crazy when I say my retirement is going to be devoted to reading. 😵

Work should be something that you enjoy doing. I know that is not always possible (although it can be). For many years (20+) I did something I was good at but really didn't truly enjoy so I decided to do a complete about face and started doing something I enjoyed. There were certainly changes that had to be made, initially, in my lifestyle but that soon became a non issue when I felt a lot better both mentally and physically. For the past 10-15 years I've been "mostly retired" working when I felt like it or needed to. I will continue in this vane for as long as my heart desires. It's a wonderful feeling and life.
Edit: I too enjoy reading and do a lot of it and will continue to.

In the summertime when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
    When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel
    Speed along the lane
Do a turn or return the twenty-five
    When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good and really fine

We're not bad people, we're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody, but we do as we please
    When the weather's fine
We go fishing or go swimming in the sea
    We're always happy
Life's for living, yeah, that's our philosophy

Sing along with us, dee-dee dee-dee dee
    Da doo da-da da, yeah, we're hap-pap-py
Da da da, dee da doo dee da doo da doo da
Da doo da-da da, dee da da dee da da

When the winter's here, yeah, it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes
'cause it will soon be summertime
    And we'll sing again
We'll go driving or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town
