"Five things to watch for in the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl"
KAPOLEI, Hawaii -The first nonconference Pro Bowl kicks off Sunday between Team Sanders and Team Rice at Aloha Stadium. The new format has NFL players in Hawaii buzzing about going up against teammates and playing alongside men from opposite conferences. Kinkhabwala: The Bizarro Bowl The new Pro Bowl format has spawned a fun twist: teammates battling each other. Aditi Kinkhabwala reports from Hawaii. READ So, without further ado, here are five things to watch for in Sunday's exhibition:
1) Teammates hitting teammates
It will be interesting to see if some defensive players take it easy on their own teammates. We already discussed whether or not Robert Mathis would crush Andrew Luck if given the opportunity. Will Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward crush receiver Josh Gordon if the two meet over the middle? How hard might Justin Houston go after Jamaal Charles? The new format was designed to manufacture intrigue. We will see if the players go along.
2) Snubbed players
During Wednesday's draft, several players seemed miffed that they were picked late (or in some cases assigned). There was trash talk after the draft was over, indicating the process might motivate the late picks to play harder than in past Pro Bowls. It seems some of the bitterness has worn off, but if Alex Smith starts slinging it Sunday and then gives us some Richard Sherman-esque taunts, we'll know he took being the last pick as a slight.
3) Deion vs. The G.O.A.T.
Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice have been badgering each other all week about matching up Sunday. We will see if all their bloviating gets them on the field for a faceoff.
4) Tony Gonzalez's final curtain call
The future Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end will play his final snaps between the lines Sunday. At last year's Pro Bowl, the teams allowed retiring center Jeff Saturday to switch teams and take one final snap from Peyton Manning. It will be interesting to see if Panthers coach Ron Rivera calls any special plays for Gonzalez.
5) SuperCam
Everything about the Pro Bowl screams "Cam Newton for MVP." It's hard enough for players to tackle Newton when they are trying. In a game in which defenders aren't known to tackle, Cam shouldn't be on the ground much. Ted Ginn Jr. is not one of his top wide receivers in the Pro Bowl, so Newton's stats should improve right off the bat. The quarterback also has added incentive to show off against Rivera, Mike Shula and the rest of the Carolina Panthers' coaching staff. Don't be surprised to see Cam displaying his Superman celebration liberally in Hawaii."

In an effort to make the game more competitive, this year’s rosters were determined by fantasy draft. The player’s conferences were not taken into consideration. The draft was conducted by two selected former players, NFL Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders. There are even rumors that Rice and Sanders could suit up to play as well.
Below you’ll find the most confusing Pro Bowl rosters in NFL history as provided by ESPN.com. (Dallas Cowboys players are highlighted)” http://thelandryhat.com/2014/01/26/nfl-pro-bowl-game-time-channel-weather-information

"So with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling. "Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification.
Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from your costume, makeup and your entourage. Sing 'The Star Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America, not you. And please remember, not everything has to be sung as a Southern spiritual. We're getting a little weary of that. Francis Scott Key does not need any help. Semper Fi!" Broncos total average opponents offensive yards and pts per game 349 23
Seahawks total average opponents offensive yards and pts per game 329 22
Broncos gave up 7 yards and 2 pts per game more than their opponents total offensive average
Seahawks gave up 55 yards and 8 pts per game less than their opponents total offensive average
Broncos total average opponents defensive yards and points per game 362 24
Seahawks total average opponents defensive yards per game 338 22
Broncos gained 95 yards and 14 pts a game more than their opponents total defensive average
Seahawks gained 1 yard and 4 pts a game more than their opponents total defensive average
From one direction this means that the Seahawks should hold the Broncos to 402 yds and 30 points(or 128 yards and 16 points more than they gave up on average) and the Broncos should hold the seahawks 346 yards and 28 pts (or 10 yards less and 3 points more than they gave up on average)
But from the other Direction The Seahawks should gain 357 yards and score 29(or 19 yards and 3 points more than their average) while the Broncos should gain 369 yards and score 28(or 88 yards and 8 points less than their average)
*Averages are rounded after calculations.
So which one is more credible? I would say the second one. If you believe that the Seahawks giving up 128 yards and 16 points more than their average is more attainable than the broncos going for 88 yards and 8 points less than their average than you are smoking something and I want to know what it is. However, I'm not mathematically oriented enough to use all this data to come up with a probability so I will just average the entire thing and call the Broncos .5 point favorites.
My eyes tell me that the Seahawks' defense and offense match up favorably with the Broncos' but based on the numbers it should be one heckuva game.
PS If someone has any time to waste they should do what I did above with average rushing and passing on defense and offense.
Originally posted by MISTER CHESSI haven't looked this up but I think the Broncos must have gone for at least 88 yards and 8 points less than their average a few times this year while the only game where the seahawks may have given up at least 128 yards and 16 points more than their average was against the Colts and that included a statistical aberration in their special teams.

Speaking of special teams, considering that the broncos are on average .5 points better when only considering offensive and defensive stats then Percy Harvin may truly be the X factor in this game playing only on returns not even considering his possible influence on the Seahawks offense.
Originally posted by MISTER CHESSAnother way to look at these stats is to see that both Seattle and Denver were on average an overall 12pts above the average with Denver being 88 yards above average and Seattle being 56 yards above. Considering the average nfl pass attempt is probably ~2.5-3 yards more than the average NFL rush attempt if seattle and denver averaged a difference of about 10.5 passes or rushes(with the obvious, denver passing more/rushing less and seattle passing less/rushing more) in rush/pass ratio then they are pretty much dead even in the yards above average department.
