This could be an exciting game. Holland's capacity is well known, and for once Sweden has some offensive qualities too.
According to swedish media, many of the dutch players and indeed Dick Advocaat himself believe that the game will be an easy win. Of course, on a good day Holland could outclass any team, but I think they might be in for a surprise.
I can't remember that Sweden and Holland have met in an important game for ages, and I think that's to Sweden's advantage. There are a number of teams that have been overconfident and found out the hard way that Sweden is very difficult to beat. It is strange, but I think it's because Sweden usually plays a rather colorless football that fails to draw attention but is nevertheless solid.
Anyway, I've always been a fan of dutch football and I look forward to this game a lot. Sweden wins 2-1. 😉

After the match against Germany I don't think the dutch team will underestimate any team anymore.... they have seen the Swedish matches against Bulgaria, Italy and Denmark .... they made a very solid impression in my opinion.
But the dutch are starting to believe again that they can WIN this tournament. As in almost every tournament they will get better and better.... beware that the dutch will probably play much better against Sweden then in the previous matches.
But .. it will be a thriller no matter what.

Originally posted by stokerCan anyone explain why Van Nistelrooy is so respected in England? I think the guy sucks. The two goals he scored yesterday were fortunate accidents: the penalty kick was given even though there was no foul and the header-goal was made in off-side position (it made me wonder if the ref is close to retirement and we offered him a bribe... Oh well, at least he compensated for the mistakes the other ref made in our game against the Czechs). The times that Van Nistelrooy *should have* scored, he aimed directly at the Lithuanian goalkeeper. It made me long back to better times, the era of Bergkamp.

Fortunately, the goal by Makaay took away the reasons for the Lithuanians to complain. That was a proper goal.

they may have been fortunate goals last night but a lesser striker may not have taken up the position to score the second. penalty well a lesser striker may have missed.
the other thing about his play is that he is extremely good at holding the ball up enabling the defensive to clear by playing the ball to him and then from there he brings the midfield into play. Or maybe just run half the length of the pitch and tuck it away (ala fulham v united).
under estimate van nistelrooy and u will pay.
and to be blunt, anybody who says he sucks

I remember how he once played a ball that was rolling in parallel to, and about 2 feet away, from the goal-line. All he had to do is put his foot against the ball and he would have scored. Van Nistelrooy decided to show off: he curled his right foot behind his left leg... And missed the ball.
I will never *ever* forget how much he made a fool of himself that day...

over 100 goals in 3 seasons at united is an unbelievable strike rate for a player that sucks.
i do wonder how many a decent striker would have scored in 3 seasons 200+ maybe ???
