Looks awesome, but I can't help seeing it as a gigantic sun dial. 😉

Very nice construction Francis, but it doesn't say how tall the tower will be.

Actually is interesting. In order to get "into space" the human race needs new "materials". This implies that we will actually have to invent something stronger than steel. There are a million 'things' that qualify, "in theory".

If and when we get real math guys to come up with these materials... we will...

1 - have a combustion chamber able to withstand fission.
2 - get to the outer planets in weeks.
3 - save the human race.

i don't think any new materials are required for this.

- just lots and lots of good concrete, and glass for the glasshouse at the base (25 square km i believe!!)

You are right. Up to 1.2 kilometers.

We are a century from that "lofty goal".

Then?

Will we stop and wet our pants? "Geez! What can I do? Can't build higher than that!"

"excuse me, mr. hibuilder... there is an engineer on the phone. He says to tell you he now understands the ability to "crack" the carbon molecule. You want to talk to him"

"Not right now, Edith. I need to feel sorry for myself that I can't build the tallest building in the world..."

That will be about the size of it. Steel is 1 ten thousanth of what carbon can be.

Hey! I din't make the rules!

Anyway... We could be 'out there' .. exploring the outer planets and astroids if there was ONE BRAVE, COURAGEOUS PERSON who cared enough about the human race to invent "Carbonium"...

i think this project is intended for now.

there seems to be a financial issue though .... and i suspect our present government would not be very approving of a serious competitor to our coal burning power stations.
