The contenders so far are: Mt. t. Helens, Krakatoa, and Yellowstone.

BTW, what is the name of the volcano at Yellowstone?

Yellowstone. The whole bloody thing is the world's largest caldera.

I've gotta go with Mt. St. Helens too.

There are some interesting side stories associated with it. You could look at it from a geological standpoint and have some sociological sidebars to go along with it.

There's also a ton of interesting information on Mt. Vesuvius and the effects on Pompeii...

I was waiting for Pompeii. Took longer than I thought. I see volcanoes are more popular than Earthquakes. I'm surprised the tsunami earthquake wasn't mentioned

Come to Japan, where we have rumbles, grumbles and fumbles all the time,
and rumpy-pumpies every day
and kneetremblers every week
and jigger-jiggers every month
and "OH MY GOD, THIS IS THE BIG ONE no it wasn't thank fook for that!" every couple of months...

You might have to wait a little bit (they never quite come when you're expecting them, rather like a London bus), but you'll be suitably shaken and stirred in time...

How about the San Francisco Quake from 1906 ?

There is a theory that seems to hold water: earthquakes peak when the moon and the sun are in line or opposite which causes the earth's crust to stress more and slippages are more likely to occur. Notice the earthquake, I think the latest one was in Iran, right after the eclipse which of course puts the moon in line with the sun. The gravitational
stresses from those two are additive at that point in time, causing the earths crust to shift a bit more then when the moon and sun are not in line.

I remember reading a website(I can't remeber the name of the site) that said that the biggest tectonic activity in the entire world will happen around 2034 when The Plate Between India and asia will converge and have a large crack(5km end to end) in the southern Himalayas and will set of one of the volcanos over there.

Unfortunately, my project is due long before 28 years. Thanks for all your help everyone, my decision will be made on Wednesday, 2 weeks before the project is due.

I vote for the big earthquake two weeks ago in Central Europe.
