Much of this so called patriotism is simply empty rhetoric. Patriotism is more than just waving flags and clamoring for your enemies to be bombed. It involves actually getting away from the TV long enough to vote or to serve on jury duty if you're called. It requires some active involvement on the part of the individual in his society. Much of what passes ...[text shortened]... ationalism. Nationalism of the type that would have been right at home at the Nuremburg Rallies.
I suspect you just made the list of people that the FBI will be keeping an eye on... and I agree with you.

I could not agree more, to be a patriot is to love your own conuntry, to be a nationalist is to dislike all other countries and societies other than your own. Most of the worlds problems spring out of nationalism - empire building, to world wars, to religious fundermentalism. 🙁

Africa is a continent.
Poland is a country in eastern Europe.
The Bay of Biscay is a body of water to the west of France, adjoining the Atlantic Ocean.
Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon) is in Vietnam.
Lapland is an area of northern Sweden and Finland. Home to the Lapps, or the Samis as I think they are also known.
The Caspian Sea is a sea (or ...[text shortened]... e it does not belong. The others are all identifiable places. I suspect Tergunia is fictional.
Yep, that's right. I made 'Tergunia' up. So Americans aren't so bad at geography after all!

Hobart, & the rest of tasmania, tend to be dropped off a lot of maps.

Sadly, I have not been to tasmania. I have travelled a lot overseas this year for work but have not explored all that's in my back yard. Maybe I will get there in the second half of next year, for a well earned holiday

I think the word 'chauvinism' describes an obsession with one's own country's power, to the point of xenophobia. Unfortunately people get confused with 'male chauvinism', which was a later adaptation of the word; though ironically, I imagine many chauvinists who are male are also male chauvinists...

I'm not American myself, but I think a real American patriot should be asking awkward questions about the state of American politics, amongst other things. (I'm probably being hypocritical here, British politics isn't so much better 🙁.)

Politics is the same everywhere in the world, if you just look under the surface. A lesson I have had to learn the hard way this year.

This question could have been answered several other ways.

1.Hobart-it is the only one on Tasmania and not on mainland Australia.

2.Canberra-it is the only one situated away from the coast.

3.Adelaide-it is the only one that starts with a vowel.

I was expecting Andrew's answer, but I am very impressed with yours. I sorry to say as an Australian I did not think of that answer

The question was directed at only Americans and Brits. The Australians were forbidden to answer.
