Does anyone have a good handle on how serious/dangerous the public uprising in Thailand is right now?

I have a friend going there in a few weeks.

I will be visiting Bangkok and Chang Mai in three weeks time and have absolutely no problems about going. Several Bangkok residents I am in contact with say you wouldn't know there was a problem unless you passed a protest.

The Thai people are some of the kindest most gentle people I have ever met. They have no problem with tourists, just the government. The last coup would have been interesting to be around. I can imagine Thai soldiers appologising profusely to tourists because they had parked a tank in their way. They really are nice people.

Tell your friend to go and have heaps of fun.

Well I live here and I'm pretty safe! 🙂

It's all down south and has been happening for centuries. It is not a sudden thing.

Your friend will be fine. Just don't go to the south border. 😉

You might as well tell her to stay away from all the fun while you're at it.

The South is where Bangkok and all the lovely islands are.

Errm, ever read a map?

I might be half cut Darvs, but BKK is nowhere near the fighting.... neither is Phuket - which is a 2 hour flight south of BKK.

Yes. Am I missing something here? Bangkok is on the south of the mainland on the gulf of thailand, no? And the islands/strait run further south on the west side?

Do you mean the border on Cambodia is where it is dangerous or the border on Malaysia?

The gulf is central. Chiang Mai is considered north. BKK is central. The trouble is 500Km away and never interferes with travellers. It is Muslim vs Buddhism........ yet again. What's your prob?

The only reason I have that wealth and knowledge is because I got off my ass and travelled and worked the world. How many have the balls to do it vs their own little comfort blanket?

I am learning my 12th language Darvs..... because of where I am at.

Who has done that out of all the people I know? NONE is the answer.

Yes It has been painful at times and I have walked streets with pebbles in my shoes and my toes bled. But I am still me and I HAVE given so much to people who really needed, despite myself.

Giving is the best policy. Take and you owe. Give - then you find yourself.
