Merry Christmas, Gramps and a happy New Year. When you were a young lad, did you ever think that the year 2012 would get here? And where are all those flying cars and Moon colonies we were promised in the 1950's? And the kicker is a good woman's love is priceless, cold beer still tastes great, and in many places the lamppost corner (literally and figuratively) still attracts the regular crowd. Just a nice time of year to slow things down, renew, but also look forward to the improvements you are going to make in your life in the new year. For me, that is the definition of death: "there is nothing I need or want to change in my life".

Thanks, Robbie. Hope your invitation's still open, when I'm finally settled in my new home, late January.

I'm new to RHP forums, but I have enjoyed enormously our transatlantic musings. When I cross the pond to visit my brother's offspring which he carelessly littered around California we must arrange to meet. Have a festive seasonal celebration, oh, bollocks - Happy Christmas!

yes it will be GB, I shall decorate you as my greatest general, we shall traverse into
English held territory, safe in valour's glory, disdaining their steel as befits true Vikings!

Will your visit be restricted to California?

My dear GB, i have always found the words of Vasily Smylov, former world champion,
to be rather excellent in this regard,

“My goal is to make 40 good moves.
If my opponent makes a mistake, I’ll win.
If my opponent will also be able to make 40 good moves, there will be a draw.
If my opponent plays like a genius, I’ll lose.”

thus dear GB, we cannot influence the result, merely play to the best of our ability, this
is all that we can hope for. You will receive nothing but encouragement, all else is
counter productive.

He also said, "In chess, as in life, a man is his own most dangerous opponent".

Unashamed to tell you your casual reference to 'lamppost corner' (title of one of your favorite early gb general forum threads, which I'm certain you remembered) made a little water come to the corner of me good eye when I first read your post.

Thanks, Moose.

Note: Bet you also remember that I spelled the thread title incorrectly... Lampost Corner.
