It gives you ten or fifteen minutes to get your computer house in
order, maybe make a move or two and then power down a bit
more gracefully.

Wat too techinical for me. 😕
Its just a box, go to circuit city, best buy, one of those places,
ask for a UPS, they come in various sizes, basically its a rechargable
battery, like you get at radio shack, They have UPS's too,
and an inverter like you plug into the cigarette lighter in your car,
you know about those? you can power a radio, shaver, small stuff
like that while you are on the road, only now the batteries and
inverter and charger are in one box and you plug it into the wall
and plug the computer power plug into the UPS which has a sensor
in it that always knows the house power, is it on or has it blown.
when its senses house power, it switches itself out of the power
loop and just keeps a little recharge thing going on the batteries
but when it senses house power goes away, it switches to its battery
and inverter circuit which puts out 110V AC just like the house did,
but only for 10 or 20 minutes so if you are sitting at your comp when
the power goes, the computer acts like normal but the UPS buzzes
or lights up and thats the start of the time the battery can keep the
comp going. So in those 10 or 20 minutes you do what you can and
save what you want and power down yourself so you won't lose
anything important. Its just a battery to power the comp for awile.
