Revolver by a mile.
1/2 of the white album dates back to the sessions for revolver that just simply weren't good enough to make it & were shelved.
If Sgt Pepper had included the other songs that were recorded in the same sessions- ie Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields- that would have been their best album in my opinion.
Revolver and White stand out as albums that could have been recorded this week. Also Revolution 9 is cracking, have yyou ever just sat down and really listened to it? Completely mental. You could knock it together on a Mac these days in about half an hour but back then it was a different issue.
Also, hearing Ringo yell "I've got blisters on my fingers!" at the end of Helter Skelter is worth the admission price alone.
Abbey Road is a beautiful album, it's just a little bland for me.
Originally posted by JohnLennonForeverDon't get me wrong though, Abbey Road is a great one and so is the White Album along with just about every other album! In fact, Abbey Road is what turned me into such a huge Beatles fan, but I think Sgt. Pepper's is one of the most creative albums ever!
I will say that Rubber Soul and Revolver are similar albums and are up there!
Annus Mirabilis
Sexual intercourse began
In nineteen sixty-three
(Which was rather late for me)–
Between the end of the Chatterley ban
And the Beatles' first LP.
Up till then there'd only been
A sort of bargaining,
A wrangle for a ring,
A shame that started at sixteen
And spread to everything.
Then all at once the quarrel sank:
Everyone felt the same,
And every life became
A brilliant breaking of the bank,
A quite unlosable game.
So life was never better than
In nineteen sixty-three
(Though just too late for me)–
Between the end of the Chatterley ban
And the Beatles' first LP.
