check out www.distrowatch.com for many Linux Distros(variations).

also try PCLinuxOS 2007.

Tell what you think of the other distros if you have used them.

Cheers.

I didn't like ubuntu at all. I prefer PCLinuxOS 2007, though I'm not very experienced with linux at all.

Linux is very different(and far better) to Windows.
There is a learning curve to Linux but it is worth getting to grips with it. Using forums and goggle searches will get you through learning Linux.

Long live LINUX

operation systems are tools. you can do pretty much all the same things in all off them. in some it's just more laborous, usually meaning unix variants. but sometimes it's just the opposite.

it all depends on how much you know and what you're accustomed to. and nobody knows everything.

Sure, all the *nix flavours are great - If you're a developer or computer savvy person. Can you see the average PA, marketing executive or grandmother who wants to type out her recipes, worrying about open source software and security issues?

For the average user, a broad statement like "Linux is the bestest!! lulz!" is not accurate.
For most people, Windows is perfect, because it's still the easiest OS to install and use.

Try Ubuntu - it is the easiest Linux version to use that I have come across.

Sure there are some Linux distros that are very complex but not all Linux versions are for 'experts'.

I agree try ubuntu.
it's easy to install and use.
I actually use debian on my home computer that my parents use.
At school I used windows because it's extremely fidldy trying to download packets through a proxy server.

I have Ubuntu 7.0.4 and Fedora Core 6 on an older machine.
Both are very easy to install and use, but still not as easy as Windows.

every os is good, the osx is an excellent os... the best, who are we talking about here.... a developer or a 75yr old woman who has never touched a computer???

if i had to go for one i would say xp was the best.... pretty good for everything, has it's flaws yes, but massive online support, easy to find a tech to repair as well if the os fails.... you wont easily find a local linux tech
