Some of these groups I would refer to as acquaintances - e.g. 'online friends' I have never met - I must know a person well enough to feel she/he is my friend.

Casual "friends" anywhere are simply those with whom you share common frames of reference and interests, mutual respect and trust. Close "friends" are the very few you would actually donate an organ to and/or take a bullet for if doing so would spare their life. You never explain when you're being criticized in public: your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe you anyway; neither do you ever complain: your friends are already aware of the personal challenges you're facing and few if any other people within your periphery really give a damn.

I feel the same about my Sister , I can tell her anything and She is always There for me and visa versa. I had a Brother that I was very close to ( my best Friend) but he died suddenly in January.

But what if taking the bullet damages the organ you want to donate?

Just noticed how this innocuous OP split opinion for some reason.

"split opinion" or expanded it to include the opinions of others?
