I don't want to appear like a grouchy old Victor Meldrew (apologies to non- Brit's for the reference 😉).
But there are about 3 or 4 people who are, in my and several other people's opinions, ruining this forum.
The forum's are people for here to have fun, but when the same few are replying to every thread, which rapidly become off-topic banter between the same few individuals, it' very annoying.
So the plea is: reply to a thread if you have something worthwhile and on-topic to contribute. If you just want to chat about stuff the rest of us are not interested in, use the longest thread, or even start another thread.
I'm sure you don't want to ruin other people's enjoyment of these forums but I can assure you this is what you are doing.
Those responsible know who they are.
When you have almost as many posts as moves, something is not right.
Varg.
Thank you, Varg, and I hope that I am not included as a culprit. Might I suggest that Russ/Chris change the heading on the forums page under general? Perhaps rather than saying 'if it's off-topic, or you're not sure where to put it, put it here' they could say something suggesting that this forum is for posts that are serious, humourous, intelligent, planned, though-out, witty, insightful or any combination of the above (I probably missed the odd adjective in there.)
Furthermore, this site is in large part devoted to the playing of chess, in the sense that members have in common that they all play chess. Therefore, following on discussion in another thread (which I believe is the cause of this one), a little bit of respect for the established and skilled players here is in order.
Finally, I will re-iterate your plea, especially since I suspect many of your 'culprits' are the same as ones I consider mildly annoying, and these happen to be of similar age to myself. Please don't lump us together.

The only way we can make things better as a community is to try and bring these members - who obviously love the site or they would not be here all the time - into the greater community so they respect it and understand it more. We do not want to greate a sub group or a them and us situation
I know CFC refuses to believe that many people are upset by his posts, that it is killing threads, that people are leaving the site, and that we want it to stop.

If you visit the forum and every thread has the same one or two 'last posters' they are the culprits. As I said there are 3 or 4 maybe.
Accusing a player of cheating is bad, but forgivable. Maybe he didn't realise the seriousness of the accusation. An apology has been made, I think.
