I live in Florida and we frequently race boats. I belong to an amateur Class VII racing team with a good friend of mine. James is the driver of The Hot Karl and, up until today, he's been steadily putting it to the competition. By this summer I'd have expected him to be ranked.
Yesterday we we're going up against a local competitor driving The Chicken Cutlet. The CC was a great boat and, despite hitting a sand bar a few weeks ago, still our biggest competiton.
For the most part, I just drink alot, enrich the fuel and make other mods to the fuel intake. Really, a bathtub with a 4.5hp outboard would qualify to compete in our Class. Still, it's fun as hell.
Right off the line, it was clear that the Chicken Cutlet and Hot Karl were evenly matched. James, being half in the bag, put it to the Chicken Cutlet hard. I thought he had the Chicken Cutlet around the second bouy, but, with nothing more than a hard rub the Chicken Cutlet slid by.
By the third lap, the Chicken Cutlet still had the lead. James decided to try to take out his motor with a full speed rear end smash. Sadly the Hot Karl hit the Chicken Cutlet's wake, missed her completely and slammed into the back end of a lapped competitor. The Hot Karl slowly sank beneath the surface and James was unceremoniously dumned onto the beach with his shorts full of sand.
