The Duke's new year address

Four score and seven years ago (give or take) our fathers brought forth on this internet, a new chess site, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men and women are created equal on the chessboard.

Now we are engaged in a great chess war, testing whether that player, or any player so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that chessboard. We have come to dedicate a portion of that board, as a final resting place for those who here gave their queens that their kings might live.

I wish you all a healthy and happy new year (without exception) and as I venture out into the world (to a slightly intimidating pub on the corner, opposite a kebab shop) I reflect on all we have achieved and the nonsense we have collectively posted.

I like a glass of wine with a meal (over a weekend) but never more than that. (Excluding Christmas).

I’ve enjoyed having just the one glass with our festive dinners. It’s great to wake up without a headache which I can get with two.
