American Pop Culture reference. 'Seacrest' refers to Ryan Seacrest, the host of the show, 'American Idol'. Perhaps the most entertaining show is watching the ever spinning Gay or Straight wheel, that is, Ryan Seacrest.

Ah. I didn't know it was a name, I was looking for the word in the dictionary and couldn't find it.

Edit: So PBE6 is accusing himself of being Ryan Seacrest?

fascinating. a thread on the elegance of the universe has morphed into a thread on the sexuality of the host of a banal reality tv program on just the second page.

A friend of mine bought the book "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene and he's raving about it. Of course, he's usually stark raving 😉 so I thought I'd get another opinion first. Anyone here read it? Any good?
It depends on you of course. I personnally found the book a quite nice read, but I know of people who found it too advanced.

Of course one cannot write about current physics without going into depth. And if you could just understand about string theory from one book without serious math , the question would be why a lot of people who do nothing els make apparently a slow progress.

So it's a good book for people who are really interested in physics and a bad book for people who think they can just understand the more difficult things.

Yes, it is good. It is very well (elegantly?) written. But it changed my view of the Universe completely. My former view was more elegant in its simplicity.

Then I read "Three roads to quantum gravity" by Lee Smolin that made the whole thing far more complicated than before.

Before I thought I knew it all. Now I know that I don't know anything. 😕

It's more like you said "cheese grater" when you should have said "sponge destroyer".

How outdated are we talking? There were a few comments in the preface about revisions. Are you saying the revisions need revisions?! 😕
