-Removed-Try a few pages up from the end, like around page 1448.
Apparently, the forums (I think there was only one at first) were quite antagonistic at first. There's a lot of yelling (all caps) going on (apparently mainly between someone named xenophobe and someone named babe [and their hangers-on]), and according to a reading of the first few pages of the forum found here, the other new forums and the General Forum had to be shut down and heavily moderated at least temporarily at first because of all the antagonism and screaming going on. Many posts comment on it and on the feedback to the admins over it.
So it wasn't as dull as you may think, and the recent issues over the Debates Forum's conflict resolutions aren't anything new by a long shot.
And not long after I got here, the General Forum was as contentious as the Clans Forum got at one time. So this "land of unicorns, rainbows and lovey-doveyness" you speak of is a total sham. I personally think that these forums have matured well and have settled into a balance (not that all conflicts are over).
@suzianne saidIt sounds like that was at about the time we had our short-lived access to our own private live chat room! That got shut down even faster than our first forums! 🙂

It's true that the first forum selections were much fewer in number, and they were not moderated. It did not take very long for that to change. The forum feature was a popular addition to the site but it quickly became hostile. So it was shut down for a few weeks. Once it returned, it came with moderators.
