I know this has been covered several times but here is my problem.

I desperately try not to take TOs I am here to play chess. I am in a clan game against "orangebirds" he no longer appears to be in the clan and hasn't moved since 2004! Though he does have his vacation sign on.

I am happy to leave this game for about a year as I have unlimited game plays. πŸ˜€

Now my problem- he has been TO'd by many many people if I now lose the games my rating will plummet as he is rated at about 700 as opposed to the 1200 or so when we started. It would be nice if there was a way that games in progress kept their original rating whilst vacation sign is on - to protect those who respect the vactaion sign.

Anyway Wednesday morning rant over back to workπŸ™„

I think if people just stop paying attention to T.O., then he'll stop acting like a jerk. Or not, whichever. I'm just glad he didn't win a Super Bowl ring this year.............

Oh, wait.... Oh, you meant.... Oh well, whatever, nevermind.

Does this mean the longer you take to time him out, the less rating points you gain? Unless he suddenly comes back, better/stronger/faster like Steve Austin, and racks the points up. Then disappears again, and you time him out for the windfall! It's a bit like the Stockmarket really, isn't it? πŸ™‚

Mat -

Your points are valid ones.

What I usually do - if things go this long - is send a PM to the Clan Leader and see if he has information regarding his player. If the player has left the Clan, likely he'll suggest you time him out.

I've had this happen to me, a couple of times, and each time the opposing Clan Leader advised me to take the Time Out, so I did.

The other thing to consider, since the challenge is still "on-going" both Clans are denied any points that might have been won.

Gosh, Time him out. He obviously doesn't care as much as you do. Take the TO and don't feel guilty thats why there is a TO option. I recvkon even on two month holiday he could squeeze in a few moves if he remotely cared.

assuming your rating is not still provisional, there's no way to LOSE points timing someone out (= a win), however low their rating is compared to yours.
the worst that can happen is that your rating goes up by so little (<0.4) that the rise gets rounded down to 0 and you're back where you started.

You miss my point if (s)he does return and beats me (quite possible as we were of a similar rating when the game was organised) I would lose far more points than if the game had been played out before orangebirds rating plummeted due to other TOs being taken.

Anyway I will pm clan leader and take it from there.

If he's failing to meet his commitment to his clan, then cut your losses and time him out.
I'm sure I read somewhere in the help blurb that you should see out any clan games even after you leave that clan.
