As a US NAVY VETERAN I AM OFFENDED BY YOUR COMMENTS I SERVED WITH THE CANADIAN NAVY OUR TASK FORCE SAILED WITH THE CANADIANS,THE BRITS,THE AUSSIES,AND WITH OTHER ALLIED NAVIES ALL WERE PROFESSIONAL AND DID WHAT THEY WERE TRAINED TOO WHICH IS WHY WE WON THE COLD WAR. BUT TODAY ITS TOO BAD THE US HAS A INCOMPETENT COMMANDER IN CHIEF(BUSH) AND HIS WHITE ...[text shortened]... I DONT BLAME OTHER COUNTRIES WHO SAW IT FOR WHAT IT WAS AND REFUSED TO BOW TO W AND HIS BOYS
BTW I am a veteran from the cold war era, and we weren't all that impressed with some of our leaders then either. (Nixon, Ford, Carter etc.). The US navy may be one of the best trained, but the better part would that we don't generally have to brag about it. Save it for a military site.

And what the hell is your point? More importantly, how much did you have to drink before you decided to post this?

It was mass training done on the quick in those days..
To a degree it happens today.
The US has a big Navy today most of the surface ships are just targets for attack subs that is where the power is today in the us navy but my understanding is that RN and some other countries sub skippers have a boader training and more independent autority in warfare as opposed to the US skipper having very highly qualified separate officers to different jobs and having to wait for authority from the on high..
The theory being that the broader knowledge leads to faster better decision making...
It would be a sad day for us all if that were ever put to the test.
I don't like this love your allies stuff.. NZ always fought with USA and Britain.. we were in WWII faster than USA.. yet today NZ does have ally status since we banned nuke ships from our 200mile economic zone I the late 80's.. we got dumped from the ANZUS alliance and really got told to get stuffed by USA.. Big brother (or mother) attitudes don't help..
Big isn't always best.. just look at the state of affairs in the middle East. Its a mess!
